Under the current circumstances Richmond will not be a serious contender for the forseeable future.

We would all agree that the name of the game is building a side to win flags not a group that is merely competitive and can beat the lower ranked teams.

It is a waste of time to potter around for 21 weeks and win between 7-11 games before the inevitable occurs and the cleanout begins.

If the Richmond board is serious about building a respectable football club the following should happen TODAY.....

1) Wallace and Royal should be sacked
2) King & Rawlings be placed on notice
3) Campbell appointed caretaker coach
4) Bowden & Johnson retire
5) Immediate review of the clubs fitness & conditioning staff and handing of Cotchin in the pre-season and Cousins last night
6) Immedairte review of club's recruiting processes
7) Immediate review of list management to determine why Bowden and Johnson were retained, why King, JON & Pettifer weren't delisted and how in the name of Francis Bourke did we trade a priority draft pick for Jordan McMahon
8) Commence process to appoint modern thinking coaches, possibly Buckley, but we would have Buckley's chance.

The jungle drums were beating after the loss to Carlton in the centenary game last season however our finish to the year prevented the hard decisions from being made.

It has been yet another wasted off-season, let's not waste the season as well.

I hate to say it, but ........

parrot is right!

A team built for mid table finishes, happy with beating bottom 8 teams, but crumble when the pressure is turned up.

i agree, cleanout should begin now. Starts with Wallace IMO.

If its any consolation, i cannot see Wallace as our coach come round 4. We will surely get smashed against the cats and then again against the dogs. 3 drubbings and Wallace is gone i reckon. Sheeds will take over as caretaker and we'll make finals. Then he'll do a proper list cleanout come end of season and we will truly begin to make steps forward.

The thing i fear most is that wallace is a good tactician for in that case our skills really are that bad

We are half-way through our rebuild, anyone worth a pinch of shit should realise that. Wallace does not, he thinks we are "cherry ripe", "locked and loaded", "9th with a bullet", so on and so forth. Clearly overrates our list. We need another 4 years to weed out the duds and older players and bring in a balanced list. We also need a strong coach who isn't afraid to make major cultural changes around the club. Culturally we are still up shit creek.

I think some of you need to take a step back and give it a little more time - I mean 24 hours ago alot of you probably considered yourselves a finals chance.

Your guys were horrible last night but it can only get better, calling for peoples heads at this stage is a little drastic.

guys its only been 1 game,

i'd wait to see how they respond first before you guys make drastic changes.

If Richmond don't show up to play next week then you can say its Official. Changes need to be made

we play Geelong at Kardinia Park.... Geelong wont let us show up or respond.....

BS beave, he overrates our list to the sheep, to pull the wool over their eyes and we have arrived in year 5 and he still has a coaching job. I have said it many many times. Dont know what he has been seeing in players he has given the nod to over the stretch, but the end result is that he has got it wrong so many times it borders on him having NFI.
GO on TW, put your reputation on the line dude. Lets see, 2nd ruck is Gus's for the taking. JON will make his critics eat their words....so go on dude, when you pick the team for next week, seeing as you are such a guru in seeing what we cant, sweep them into the 22, so the sheep you have conned can stamp your file as well. Because i for one have stamped it and sealed it. Dont need to wait for the neon lights like others.

And i will stake my reputation on this...lol...not that i have one...but seriously dudes, we change the coach now to someone that just gets down to the business of getting the team to play footy for him and the club with passion, we will make top 5, by playing accountable, ferocious footy. Not this shitty, fancy shit that TW wants.
As for the dick heads that bag sheeds etc etc....and i hope it happens, just so its proven. He takes over and within a week you will see the difference. The end. ;)

I think you have a pretty decent list with the only downside you will lose some of your best older players to retirement in the coming years.

I think you need to Richmondfy your club again...

Carlton was shyte and on the improve.. the best thing they did was not Judd, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Murphy etc it was bringing passionate bleed blue Carlton folk to lead the club again.

1. Dick Pratt
2. Kernahan
3. Brett Ratten

These 3 have brought spirit and Carlton of old back to the fold and with the attitude they'll do anything they can for the club.

Pagan who was a great coach still always had his heart for the Kangaroos, Unlike Matthews who was a coach who can bleed for the club he's coaching at the time.

I just think Wallace doesn't bleed yellow and black enough nor does your administration.

Get Sheedy in now till the end of next year, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

You know what i'd like to see from a coach.

McMuffin (or it could be any of our other soft duds) shirks a contest early in the first quarter, the runner comes out to get him.

He is on the phone to the coach, he is told to sit the rest of the quarter on the bench.

McMuffin early in the second quarter throws an arm out and makes a very weak attempt to tackle, out comes the runner again.

He grabs the phone and is told to go have a shower, his day is over.

Or the runner pulls an iron bar out from under his shirt and smashes McMuffin with it in the middle of the ground.

You've got to wonder whether it's time to bite the bullet by giving Wallace the flick, caretaking his position & fielding a youthful team for the remainder of '09. Frightening stat from last night's game was Carlton's two oldest players at 28, whereas Richmond (besides Richo) have four players over 30.
Now is the opportunity to provide our youngsters with valuable game time at the expense of our 'erratic' regulars. McMahon, Bowden, Brown, Johnson, Schulz, Tambling & the list goes on (the younger players mentioned still have opportunities to redeem themselves under the guidance of proper coaching)!
If last night was any indication of our season ahead, we are in deep excrement & need to act swiftly for our youngsters to improve & break away from being stagnant under the mis-guidance of Terry Wallace. Why wait 21 weeks? We've already endured 4 years of fabricated crap from Tan & his assistants (Campbell excluded)!!!

If anyone can remember Round 1 2005, Geelong versus Richmond.

No pressure, tackling, disinterested, Geelong were kicking goals at will.

What has changed since then apart from some new faces.

I dont think last night is a fair indication of where we are at to be honest.

You cant assess the strength of a list on a single game, its just not fair.

I strongly believe the players turned up to that game half-asleep, and just simply couldnt get it right. You only have to look at our second half of 2008 as proof that we arent as bad as we looked.

Its only the first game of the season, if teams who were flogged in Round 1 all gave up hope, we'd be running short on teams competiting. :thumbsu:

Terrys time is clearly up. Whether is is now or later. point is why wait? hardwick is waiting. he has footy smarts. I say appoint him in round 5 and have sheedy oversee some duties. next year it is all hardwicks with his own team

Don't be fooled by the 2nd half of last season, Hawthorn was the only decent team that we beat, and it was a dead rubber for them.

This stat appeared on "On the Couch" last year during the period of simmering tensions between Wallace & March. It highlighted Wallace's inability to develop a gameplan to knock off top 8 teams.

Richmond 2005-2008 vs teams that finished in the finals that season.

6 wins
1 draw
39 losses!!!

A truly apalling statistic. Marsh should have gone with his instincts and cut Wallace at the end of last season. He has to go and it has to happen now!!

yeah and who is the coach that had them that fired up for the first game? ;)

I think Sheeds is a touch too eccentric to coach these days, his last few years at the Bombers showed he had lost it.

We need to go down the younger coach path (ala Voss/Brisbane, Worsfold/WCE, Roos/Swans, Clarkson/Hawks, Thompson/Cats...although Harvey/Dockers is was and always will be an abject failure)

I dread the word but rebuilding properly is the only way to go, whilst we have been bad we haven't been consistently bad ala Carlton with 3 first draft picks in quick succession and then Judd.

Going by what recent ex-players were saying last night Campbell will be coach by Round 5 or 6 and caretake through the rest of the year, the players have had enough of Wallace and his self-promotion.

Hopefully the board can convince Nathan Buckley he should take us on, he is tough, uncompromising and successful, a great teacher of the game, prided himself on his skills (god dont we need those).
