Why was Keeffe up forward last night?

It was because Port flood their backline and Buckley, rightly so, thought it would be a good idea to put three talls down there so they could mark it and convert over Port's flood defence.

Little did he know the players couldn't hit the side of Earth with their kick's last night they were so poor. Cloke, Reid and Keeffe were not even up to AFL standard last night and neither was the delivery.

Lol no it didn't. Terrible ball use and decision making did.

Port only had Schulz as a tall forward so it wasn't worth having him play as a defender.

and That was part of Keeffe being up Forward and Stuffed up our Structure

But that was predicated on the idea that more than one of the three could take a contested mark.. and that they could lead into the right spaces... which was entirely incorrect.

Then when the ball hit the deck, we had nobody around to crumb.

Terrible idea from Bucks

It was a perplexing decision by Buckley.

Keefe last played as KPF / Ruck in Round 7 last year.

Fair enough he wanted 3 tall forwards. Wrong time to be experimenting in a cut throat final.

It is a bit stupid having a guy in the VFL who kicked over 45 goals sitting in that team all season not being tried once all season as the third tall but when you are in your club's most important game, you decide to experiment with a defender.

Was Bucks to Arrogant doing that?

Lynch did not Play.

Was Buckley's Most Stupidest Idea all Season.

Cost us the Game
Lynch was not fit to play and I'd hazard neither was Jolly.
You gotta play what you have Dave.

I thought we were in trouble the second I saw Keefe forward/ruck.

The issue was not Keefe playing forward but his therefore not playing back.
We simply ran out of fit tall (forward or back) options at the wrong time.

would of been handy to give Paine a crack during the season when Lynch was stinking it up

Buckley did the exact same thing with dawes last season.

im seeing a bad trend here

Paine does not give Defensive Pressure which stopped him playing

The balance in the forward line was never weighted correctly all season.

Defensive skills are required but if you play too many defensive forwards, you don't kick winning scores.

You need targets who are natural goal kickers.

Nope a back only.

This has been attempted at VFL level and has been a constant failure. Can't get off the ground in the ruck either.

Almost got split in half when he ended up on his arse in his first centre bounce contest.

Can't understand why we would destabilize the most stable back structure we'd had this year, especially since it was a sudden death final. Westhoff did a lot of damage and I can't help but think of how much better out back line would have been if Keefe had been there. Really baffles me that we'd make such a silly error. Hindsight is 20/20 however.

I thought it was curious that Keeffe was picked ahead of Witts.

For all Witts' failings, he has at least played some games in the forward line this year. And Witts' has rucked. Keeffe has done neither this year - and last time we saw him play forward we learnt that he's not a forward line player.
