3 weeks in and I've got a few questions.

1. Why have we moved away from playing Morton up the ground as an extra midfielder when it was clearly working so well in the last 6 games of 2010? Its even more puzzling that he has been moved back to almost a fulltime HF when Dimma said that this role was pretty much non exsistant.

2. All summer Dimma spoke about how he wanted to play 3 talls up forward, yet the first 3 rounds we've played only 2, 3 if you count Morton, but he isn't really a tall. So I have to ask when are we going to start playing the structure than we spent all summer practicing?

3. Why have we moved Cotchin and Martin out of the centre square at the start of games? They are ball hunters and yet we have had them starting outside the square nearly every game. Surely having one of them in the guts alongside Jackson & Foley is a better way to go, especially when we've been smashed in clearances early in games.

Now I understand that we're trying to develop the side but surely when we find things that work like the Morton move and we move away from it for no specific reason, you have to start wondering why. At the same time you also have to wonder why when things don't work why we continue to try them in the hope that somehow it will change.

Youre not suggesting that dimma has lost it?

off with his head, but i agree it is bewildering.
Not suggesting he has lost it, just wondering why when we find things that work or use a summer working on a structure that we seemingly move away from them for no apparent reason.

I agree with you on that , what i also find bewildering is that it takes us a quarter to wake up, we have been notoriusly slow starters for quite some time.

Last night the game was as good as over at quarter time,

He was saying late in the preseason that Post will come about Round 6. Griffiths can't be that far off either. Give them time
Still if you're wanting to play a certain structure why not use someone like Miller to allow you to do that until Post/Griffiths are ready to come in?

I was under the impression that Miller was the very last option.

He was basically recruited for a coaching role.

We need not lose sight of the primary function this season:
:thumbsu: Get games into our players.

Against St Kilda we had a lower games average than Gold Coast.

The games average against Hawthorn would have decreased even further.

I agree about Morton RT, playing such a talented player in starvation corner doesn't add up, he looked better when moved into midfield later in game. Dunno about midfield setup, must admit Ive found it starnge that cotch and martin look to be spending inordinate periods in front half, i can only assume it is aimed at packing some talent down there as we need to manufacture some goals.

and......time to add miller to the mix, He was put onto the list for this, the kids need expereinced help...tuck and miller a MUST

Miller maybe a last option but when we spend the summer talking up our desire to play 3 talls up forward and then go with only 2 then questions need to be asked as to why you wouldn't include him to at least give you the ability to play the structure you want to play.

Lots of rumblings here...a few more these spankings and you'll be asking dimma's head.

Let me say it again, I'm just wondering why we've moved away from things that were working towards the end of last year and why we haven't played with a forward structure that we spent all summer working on.

If anything I'd almost be inclined to give Dimma an extra year or 2 now to let him focus solely on developing the list without having to worry about whether he'll still have a job or not.

Can only suggest that others where given a chance in the midfield to prove their worth, or was moved forward as a result of poor or injury interrupted PRE seasons , however this flys in the face of why we got Miller

I think following this coming round there will be quite a few changes , another tall forward being one of them

Once again playing Nahas or Edwards inside the square before Cotch and Dustin could only be a case of giving people opportunities ?

I mentioned on a board last week that it is very likely that within this first month there may be quite a bit of experimenting taking place and the CP may in fact be looking to gain more info on players they have question marks over ?
I personally think White has really stood up , on watching the replay of last nights game , he most likely has been our most consistent player , beating his opponent every week . Vickery has been good as has Helbig and Batchellor .
I have concerns over Conca as a back pocket , whilst the long term viability of playing Connors , Edwards, Houli and Nahas is still very much questionable , none of them like body on body and are way to easily pushed aside .
We need players like Moore, Rance, Dea, Post, Griffith, Gourdis, Taylor, Thursty , Tuck, Farmer , Nason, O'Rielly, Contin and Webberly all fit available and pushing hard for selection .

Well you can forget about taylor he's gone walkabout once too often, I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of him.

With regards to Morton, I think the intention is for him to be a hard running mid-forward. Provide an extra man around the ball at times between CHB-CHF, but then when possible, move deeper forward when we are rebounding.

Last year's stint purely in the midfield was to help him develop into this role.

It may just be case of him not being good enough. He is not very quick, and maybe can't sustain the running component.

I think they identify him as an important asset around goals, just as many on here do, but also realise that we need an extra body around the contest at times.

The boy is at the crossroads.

I can only assume they are waiting for Griff to return before going with the 3 tall structure. Lets admit it, more than half this board would go into meltdown if Miller was picked. Only those behind the doors of the selection room can explain why guys like Post and Dreickx are not in the mix for now. I also think Dimma and co treat the second half of the season more seriously than the first, with regards to winning. By that I mean I think they will use the first 5-10 games purely for development, playing all the young kids whilst they are fresh. Later in the year, others will be given a go, hoping to get some better performances before heading into the next year. That's more of an intuitive guess on my part.

I love having Dusty and Cotch in the forward line, but I do agree that we need to get the formula right. That may take some time, especially with guys on limited fitness levels due to being so young.

I had thought last year that Dimma was applying a Machiavellian approach to the season whereby we would be as bad as we would be all season at the start of the year and then slowly improve. Set expectations low (where they should be) and then show steady improvement. Smart strategy to maintain popularity. Maybe we are doing the same thing this year, especially as our very difficult draw to start the season means we were probably going to have a por start no matter how well we played. Improve as the year oboes on and everyone forgets the lamentable start.

This ... I looked at our draw when it came out and figured we would be 0 and 4. The coaching staff would have looked at our draw and figured we'd be 0 and 4.
My guess is that there is a bunch of guys that have ?'s over their name all playing for similar positions. Houli, Grigg, White, Morton, Nahas, Edwards, Helbig.

They will get time to show or go.

there are lots of whys=

why do we recruit short people?
why is it that with rioli and mitchell out we could not capitalise on some sort of mid field dominance?
why do we go missing?
Why do we lose games we are in positions to win?
why is mt a tool?

this last game was very dissapointing- when it should have been an arm wrestle and it was a blowout- makes us wonder where we are at this year- I think bottom 3-
my brother made the trek from the country and was severely pissed of with our lack of system and skills

We won the stoppages, clearances and inside 50`s. So i think we well and truly matched them.

we may have won the inside 50's but the delivery inside 50 was that bad it flew straight out
how many marks did we take inside 50?

Here's the thing people, currently watching the bombers tear St Kilda a new one and seeing a team from last year who lets face it were an embarrassment are now running around full of confidence and belief. their side isnt that much different.

How does this happen? Why is it our side gets confidence up for a quarter then the next week roles in and we forget we had belief?

Starting to shit me to tears, last year the Dockers had it and now it looks like the bombers have it.

Yes I'm jealous been waiting 30 years.:o

Why Why Why?
