Explain to me then how, Bowden(came in for the Geelong game), Pettifer (came in against the Dons) & Tivendale (in this week) have all come in and we go from playing competitive footy to the shit we've seen the last 2 weeks?

So our team relies on how 3 players perform?

When they are 3 of the most selfish players to have pulled on a Richmond jumper in the last 10 years it does effect the way the team performs.

Affect the team to the tune of 130 points in 2 weeks?
Not saying they're the sole problem, but surely it is more than coincidence that since they have returned to the side we have gone from being a competitive unit to a side that is uncompetitive.

So are they or are they not the sole problem? You say they aren't, then you say that it's no coincidence that ever since they came back we've got hammered? Surely the other 19 players are at the very least 75% to blame?

Lets see if I've got this right:

  • Most Richmond supporters are of the opinion that these 3 are letting the side down, yet you and Sante don't believe it is the case.
  • Most supporters want them out of the side, you and Sante it would seem want to keep them around.
Now why is it most people can see a problem, yet you 2 can't? Just take a look at the facts, when none of them were in the side Richmond was playing competitive attacking footy, before they were dropped we were playing uncompetitive footy, since they (Bowden and Pettifer in particular) have returned we have again started to play uncompetitive footy.

I haven't said they aren't letting the team down. I don't think Tivendale should play another game for the club. Pettifer I'm not sure about, but I say give him another game to see how he goes. Bowden has been far from our worst since coming back, but people don't want him to do well so no matter what he does they will say he has been shit.

I just don't believe, like you have implied, that pretty much the main reason we have been hammered the last two weeks is because of these three players, one of whom wasn't even playing last week.

Again I didn't say they are the sole problem but they are part of the problem. As far as I'm concerned they are not part of the future of the Richmond Football Club. It seems you're close to the same conclusion but are prepared to give Bowden some slack and Pettifer is on thin ice (correct me if I'm wrong). Either way we are pretty much agree that there are problems that need fixing and I don't think continuing on with this line of discussion is going to see either of us change the others mind.

BTW I don't want to see any Richmond player fail because it means we as a club has failed but sometimes footy passes players by before they realise it has, unfortunately I think this has happened to Bowden, sure he'll get his disposals, but I think it might be time to draw the curtain on his career. Wallace does not want to use him down back for obvious reasons and he isn't dangerous enough up forward to scare opposition sides.

As for Pettifer was talking to my brother in law this afternoon and suggested we should look at offering Pettifer for trade at seasons end to a side like Sydney/Brisbane/Port for a late first round early second round pick depending on where these teams finish (first 2 should be top 8).

Tivendale should join the likes of Jason Johnson and Peverill at Essendon and be VFL footballers whose only chance of getting a game is an injury list of 23 players, meaning we had no choice but to play him.

I would let Bowden play and see if we can get some good games out of him.
And then trade the bum at the end of the year, hopefully, for a good pick.

Agree with most of that RT, if we don't want to keep Pets at the end of the year then he could be some decent trade bait. Only problem is, for us to get something decent for him, he will obviously need to have been bad enough for us to not want him anymore, but good enough for another club to be willing to give anything worthwile up for him.

Fremantle gave up a first round pick for Tarrant and all his baggage and Pettifer is on about par with Tarrant in terms of what he brings to the table and we also downgraded 5 picks in the Superdraft for Polak who was not even getting a game for Freo at the same time, so anything is possible.

Bowden should be playing HB, like his AA/B&F years.
No he shouldn't for the simple reason that it is his slowing down of the play time and again that constantly killed us last year and Wallace knows this, hence the reason he has made it clear Bowden will not be part of the backline in the future.

What happened last year when we dropped Tivva/Hyde/Gas from the team to play Geelong and brought in all kids?
Yep if it wasn't for these 3 missing that game the margin may have only been 23 goals. Good grief!

But, McMahon, King and co. run into trouble and turn it over resulting in a goal. Much, much better for the team, hey?

So, 3 players can't make that much of an impact? :o
Against a rampant Geelong side, No. Against an ordinary Crows outfit, Yes.

Beat Freo in the west. Not something anyone expected.

HOW ABOUT THE WEEK AFTER?

I'd say 8-3 is better than ordinary. And before you say that they have had an easy draw and have stumbled over the line, remember that a tough draw and a few close losses haven't been allowed as an excuse for us.

Crows were ordinary, because we were good. We were great in the first half. Why can't the majority of you ever put it down to us playing well and not to the other team playing shit.

If it was the Crows playing shit in the first half, then the reason the Crows did well in the second half was because we were shit.

When they were breaking lines and setting up goals during the 5 week period where the side was playing good footy I don't recall you having a problem with them.

Part of the problem you have is not being able to watch them live at the ground due to living in SA, but when you saw McMahon, King and co run into trouble or turn it over yesterday, more often than not it had to do with the fact that players up the ground were not moving to give them an option. One of the main culprits of this is Pettifer who time and again stood back in the 50 waving his arms around wanting the ball kicked 45-55m. Instead of getting on his bike and pushing up the ground. It was part of the reason he got dropped in the first place and part of the reason he should get the arse again this time.
