......is it that the team that ended last season with the spoon has debuted one kid this year while Carlton(5), Essendon(5) & Melbourne(3) have all played more?

...... is it that players at this club who have failed time and again are rewarded with another shot at AFL level when it is clear they are not up to it?

...... is it that any supporter who critcises what is going on is seen as not being a loyal supporter?

...... is it that 3.5 wins in 11 games is seen as acceptable, when it is no better than the 3 wins we had in 11 games to end last season?

clearly they have tried to develop the ones they have drafted over the last 4 years and the others arent good enough.

That said, moore/edwards/mcguane/morton/riewoldt/white etc have tailed off and never fired up and have been odinary.

You have it partly right, in that those kids were starting to show something the problem is with the exception of Deledio, Tambling & Pattison they get sent back to Coburg as soon as they have 1-2 quiet outings. In the meantime, we are rewarding the same players with spots in the 22 who were there last year when we finished dead last. Doesn't that strike you as odd? Why would a coach continue on with the same players who have failed time after time? Why wouldn't you just play the kids week after week and if their form wasn't good then replace them with more kids?

Exactly no need to bring duds back in and please not the old we need to bring experience back into the side and back come the same old duds would rather see Tigers not win again this year than see the old hacks back in the side play the kids throw them in the deep end.

White and Edwards were given a fair bit of leniency before cementing a spot. Riewoldt and Morton both got long stings in the side. How many talented youngsters have been sent away after just a week or two in the side? Only one I can think of is Jackson and he has been given a fair go

Cleve was given 2 games at the start of the season and didn't do a lot wrong in either to warrant being dropped. Morton was given 6 games and kicked at least 1 goal in each game as well as getting 12 touches a game, first quiet game sent back to Coburg again. Polo brought in for one game and was then sent back hardly call that being given a chance. Jackson another who was brought back and played one game then dropped again. Connors & JON have, for one reason or another, not recieved a look in yet.

While I agree that a number of kids are being given a chance, I'm at a lost as to why we've reverted back to playing the way we were last year when 3 weeks ago we were playing much better footy when the team was focused more on youth.

It really doesn't make sense but how can you argue with the logic.

When there are 22 players in the team, it is hard to think that 3 players can make such a negative difference but it does look a little ominous.

I've waited and waited and waited, time is up for season 2008 after yesterday.

Play kids learn about them now, it is easy to justify based on form.

I think Tivendale and Bowden shoud retire in the next month - invoke the Darren Gaspar rule and elevate Cartledge and Collard.

I don't know if Graham Polak has a mental illness - Hay or Thompson like but he plays with a look of constant anguish on his face. He looks gone with his confidence completely shot and needs to spend a month in the 2s working out what he wants to do for a living or getting therapy.

Hyde, Pettifer, McMahon need to be dropped, simple as that.

So in summary, retire Bowden and Tivendale, drop Polak, Pettifer and McMahon

Replace them with Morton, Polo, Hughes, Connors and one of Jackson/Raines/Casserly

The team looks better already and will not be less competitive that the past 2 weeks nor will it struggle to beat the Bombers, Demons or the Eagles.

I said it at the time, I've said it since and I'll say it again: to only have 3 draft picks in a wooden spoon year was ridiculous. We should have delisted Hyde and Tiv; we could have used late draft picks on Tom Rockliff, who looks like going top 20 this year, and maybe gaertner, who at 198cm and super-athletic, could have been trained up to be our man to take on buddy. Maybe we went out to try and win games and see how we went before the inevitable tank later where quite understandably we'll play them later in the season.
People were screaming that we should try and win games not long ago, but now they're just calling to play the kids, in other words, tank. I was criticised so badly a few years ago for even mentioning the word tank, even though we mathematically couldn't make the finals at the time.
Why wouldn't you play your seniors and let the kids develop at Coburg and bring them in when they're playing well or blood them later in the season?
Seems no-one wants to win games any more. Just a joke.

Below is an edited version of a post I made a few months back where I distinctly say we need to focus more on the kids and stop relying on the same old players we have been for the last few years. So how is it I'm changing my mind. I also believe that when saying players should be given games on form, I was talking about the kids in that instance as well. If their form warrants selection play them and when their form dropped away to replace them with other kids.

Well a few of you might be aware that this weekend I have been posting my opinion on how I see the side being a bottom 4 side and I thought I would clarify my position on why I believe that. Here is a list of the issues I believe are holding us back:

1. Reliance on the same old players.
Whether it is Richo up forward or Bowden down back or players like Johnson in the middle or Simmonds in the ruck it seems that when things get a little tough Wallace turns to these types to steady the ship and get us back on course. Now that might be great for the here and now but what about the future when they aren't around anymore who is Wallace going to turn to then a bunch of untried kids who are going to be expected to just walk in and take over from these guys. We need to be giving these kids the opportunities now to make these positions theirs. Players like Hughes, Riewoldt, Pattison, Polo, Connors and the like need to be given games even if it means we end up at the arse end of the ladder again. For the sake of our future and being a team that wants to be a long term top 8 prospect we need to be laying the foundations now.

Maybe you're getting confused with the thread I started asking who were the 12 most important players to our season where I mentioned all the older blokes and said we needed them to have full seasons if we were going to make real progress up the ladder. I believe I have always said we need to be giving more games to the kids in preference to some of the players who have had a shot and failed. In the 11 games since writing these opinions there have been a couple of more additions to that list.
