Here we will talk about Simon Wiggins.

Alot has been made of the improvement shown by Gibbs, Bowyer, Baninster and JR this year, but Wiggo's last few weeks have been equally fantastic. He's been busting his ass to give us another option down forward and has really started to come on.

If only he were a few cms taller.

He was a first round pick for a reason.

He was drafted as a FF, yet Pagan decided to try to use him as a makeshift midfielder.

It's amazing what happens when you start to play people in the position in which they were ranked in the top 20 in the country for.

God knows what would of been of Livingston if we had of played him as a leading forward, the position he was drafted for at number 4!

His contested marks in the last quarter proved to me he should be on the list next season.

Still wasn't sure about Wiggins on the weekend as we still have a few players to bring back in...but if he can provide a good target up forward, kick his 1-2 goals a game and demonstrate the passion he has shown thus far he should easily be in our 22 for a few more years.

how far is he from 100 games?

Seems to do something remarkable in the 'crunch' time of the game. Against Collingwood took a very good mark but unfortunately missed the goal, so he just decides to wrench it from a pack and snap truly on his left!

Not forgetting that mark on Saturday, that was great too!

Go Wiggins!

Just a real testiment to him that he is only a few games away from the 100 game club. One of my favourites at the club. Just love his intensity, always gives 110%, and as we have seen time and again, a pretty good mark for his size.

Would be in my team each and every week.

He fits the position of a second or third forward perfectly.

He will never mass loads of possessions but has that great ability to back into packs and either take a great mark, or bring the ball to ground for guys such as eddie and army.

If he can pop up and kick two or so goals a game and push back courageously into packs continuously, what more could you ask for?

if there ever was a man who deserved to get to his 100th game in a few weeks time, its this man. known by many names including Chief wiggins, the wiggler, wiggles, the blue wiggle so on and so forth, he's been used in the past to fill holes when required and for this reason has played his fare share of Blueant games.
but with ratten at the helm this season, he has found a spot that's right for him on the half-forward line. for a man of his size his strength above his shoulders is amazing and one of his main attributes. his hardness at the ball and his ability to kick a goal or two, will hopefully see him play past the 100 game mark and beyond.

go the wiggler

Have always loved his endeavour, but he's tended to let himself down in the past with poor skill execution and drifting out of games. This year he seems to have addressed both of those areas though, and he's making a good contribution. Love his marking.

Wiggins has been a lousy footballer taking up a roster spot for a long time. Let's not suddenly remember him as a club great. And no mark late in the game against the Tiges fixes that.

But you can't fault his endeavour, and he *seems* to be well-suited to a lead-up or defensive HFF role. I hope he can make it his own, because it's something we've lacked since Lappin was moved back years ago.

Have to admire Wiggins. He's survived the toughest period in our great Clubs history, and now he finally has the opportunity to show us some of his ability. Wiggins adds an important dimension to our forward setup. He's basically a physically strong medium forward, who attacks the ball with real intensity and attitude, busting packs, and providing opportunity for others. Plays a similar role to Hamill in fact. :)

No you are wrong, he was lousy because he was playing out of position, and in and out of the side.

He is talented footballer and deserves his spot in the side and in his favored positioned. It's no surprise he is playing he best football when getting a little bit of confidence shown in him from the MC.

Yes, exactly. :)

Well I'm not wrong then, am I? I didn't say he was a bad bloke or didn't try or didn't have something to offer. I said he's been lousy. He has. He's played a highly ineffective 90-something games SO FAR.

I think now that he's in a stronger side, and playing a role better suited to his skills, maybe he's showing us why he was kept around.

I hope he plays bloody great from here on in, and does a job for the Blues!

I see what you are saying but I strongly believe that the correlation between him performing well and him given consecutive weeks in the senior side and playing his drafted position is no coincidence.

When he plays for the Bullants he plays this position and performs week in week out.

I guess time will tell though.

Cool! I'm not gonna say he's lousy if he's playing well!

Here's a challenge for you. See if you can find a player in the league who has played ~97 games but has LESS than Wiggins' 959 career disposals.

The only ones I could find were key defenders or ruckmen.

My point is just that Simon Wiggins is DAMN lucky to still be on an AFL list. I hope he grabs his opportunity and makes that spot his own.

Well when you play 90% of those 97 games on the bench thats pretty easy too.

I have to agree with you, I wanted him delisted long time ago, and he still has a long way to go in my book.

The reason he has been at the club for so long is that there has been nobody to push him out..when given an opportunity he gives his all.

Wiggins is doing more than enough these days to hold his place in the side...but he still gets constantly bagged by nuffys that know sfa about football .
