Wiggins is doing more than enough these days to hold his place in the side...but he still gets constantly bagged by nuffys that know sfa about football .

I actually don't recall anyone in the thread saying he's not holding his place right now.

I, and several others, certainly think he is lucky to not have lost that place over the last few years, and yes, it's probably due to nobody else being good enough to take it, as you say.

His first 97 games, as a body of work, are worth bagging him about. Very few players do this little in their first 100 games. Nobody can make a compelling case he's been a good 100 game player for us.

HOWEVER... we're talking about the present and the future. He's in our best side now, because of his hard work. And he needs to keep working hard, and if he can kick a few goals, put on forward line pressure and provide a lead-up option... then who knows how good his next 50-100 games could be?

I don't think there's anyone here that wants him to fail. But in any other team in the AFL, he'd have been delisted by now. Only our awful awful list has allowed him to get near 100 games. I hope he realises this, and busts his ass to be a contributor from here on in.

Wiggins has been a lousy footballer taking up a roster spot for a long time. Let's not suddenly remember him as a club great. And no mark late in the game against the Tiges fixes that.

But you can't fault his endeavour, and he *seems* to be well-suited to a lead-up or defensive HFF role. I hope he can make it his own, because it's something we've lacked since Lappin was moved back years ago.

Do u watch any carlton games at all.
This is almost as bad as u saying murphy needs to harden up.

Normally I let guys fight their own battles but Faz has made what I think are some pretty reasonable observations...explained them for the guys who weren't quite quick enough the first time around, and still get's questioned.

It is just the type of critical observation that should be encouraged on this board. He's not slagging the guy, just a pretty good summation of where Wiggo's at.

Take the time to read the thread. Think about it. Type your reply. Think about it some more. If still happy press submit.

I don't think anyone could actually argue he's been good before this season - he was terrible. But I'll forget all that quite quickly if he keeps this up.

What's all this rubbish about him being a lousy footballer?

I have to assume it's the 17 year olds putting their 2 cents worth in saying that.

He's never been lousy at all.

Just because he's not flashy doesn't mean he's not been more than serviceable when he plays.

Not every player on the ground gets 18+ possessions in a game.

Wiggins is one of those types of players who will only get 10-15 touches but it's the other things they do while on the ground that doesn't get noticed by most fans.

Always been one of our hardest players at the ball and never drops his head when things arent going our way unlike other suppossed better players.

He should have always been moulded into an Adrian Hickmont like forward for us as he has all the tools to fill that hard, corageous role Hickmont did so well.

My thoughts exactly :thumbsu:

why the hell are people jumping on Faz for this thinking(and "*** 2000"? come on, the internet deserves better). Remove the rose coloured glasses people. I agree with (most of ) what he's said. Wiggo's been on the list since what, 2001 and not played 100 games? Not many others out there with that record due to form alone

That said, i like what he's doing now, and the role he is playing. I hope he keeps it up

Here we will talk about Simon Wiggins.

Alot has been made of the improvement shown by Gibbs, Bowyer, Baninster and JR this year, but Wiggo's last few weeks have been equally fantastic. He's been busting his ass to give us another option down forward and has really started to come on.

If only he were a few cms taller.

Simon Wiggins wears his heart on his sleeve for the Carlton Blues. The guy has really impressed me this year and is definitely one of the missing pieces in our forward line. He's a freak. Go Wiggo:thumbsu:

Wiggins!!

Now i'll be the first to admit that I was suprised Wiggins was still on the list at the start of the year and thought he would be running around with Bullants for the majority.

However, in the second half last week he was vital playing a lead up role and his hands were fantastic in the wet. Since his inclusion he has been playing some spirited footy and seems to have a bit of a presence out on the field. The bump on Cassisi to release Judd is one example. His continous attack on the footy and the ability to kick important goals has been first rate.

With Walker, Hadley and Bannister set to return, what happens to him??? What are your thoughts on his performance so far and where he fits in at Carlton?

Just quietly I think Ratts would be over the moon with his performance this year.

Talk about jumping on a bandwagon, I dont think theres enough room for you guys it was full two weeks ago!!!

Some of us always liked his game.

Maybe the bandwagoners are the less football wise fans.

Well when you play 90% of those 97 games on the bench thats pretty easy too.
And who's fault is that? It sure as hell isn't the coaching staff's.
