Probably. Who’s going to push to move him on? Goyder, the parasite who’s still clutching on and wants another term after doing sweet FA for a decade?

Let’s face it all AFL CEOs have been very ordinary executives and have completely forgotten about their role of custodians of the game They appear only interested in lining theirs and their mates pockets while leaving their ‘legacy’ ie changing the rules, opening round etc.

It amazes me people say Gillon was good, the man who sold our great game to gambling companies and News corp?? Absolute snake oil salesman. Its like how they say politics is show business for ugly people, sports administration is where bogans dress up in suits and try and pretend to be grown ups. They need good administrators and leaders. If they were serious when looking for the last CEO they would have looked outside the industry but nope after all that time we got the muppet in the next office.

It’s a disgrace they are allowed to run the game down with no recourse and still classified as a ‘not for profit’

He ticks a lot of boxes.

Wears a suit well, urbane coiffure, and favours a cologne with the faintest trace of huckleberry evoking the earthy freshness of a cedar forest after rain. Enunciates ‘P Cripps’ nicely with a practised and not overly theatrical pause after the ‘P’.

I say keep him.

There was an an interview with him on 360 where he's asked why he's considering a wild card round.

He said yes cos it's great for the broadcasters, would boost tv and attendance numbers, and bring in greater revenue. Then at the end he mentioned the fans like a forgotten tidbit.

He's a money man through and through which is why he'll never resonate well with the fans.

Gillon was the best ceo in my opinion, the only major stuff up's I think he made were expanding the AFLW too fast and dropping the ball in western sydney, both towards the end of his tenure. He did a lot more good than bad overall.
Demetriou's right hand man (Demetriou has stumbled through an array of corruption scandals since leaving the AFL).

Was point man on the Essendon drugs situation, where WADA had to force the AFL to act on systematic cheating. Tried to pin the blame entirely on Hird (an idiot) when it was plainly Bomber (drug addict, bikie connection) and his Geelong crew.

Replaced footballers and administrators with a small pool of lawyers who came through the VAFA system. This has led to weird rule mutation and unhinged decision making around gather round, opening round etc.

Gillon McLachlan and his consequences have been a disaster for our game. A slimebags apprentice who only hired people like him who are less competent than himself.

Yeah on Gillon he was a prick during the supplements scandal, but he is a corporate that had to prove himself to Demetriou and Fitzpatrick to get the gig, so I think they got him to do their dirty work. Those two didn't have a heart, soul, or any integrity, Gillon at least had a little bit.

Gather round has been good for the game, you've gotta bring new things to the table to keep your sport as number one. He also did well starting afl w early getting the jump on other sports for participants.

He was a master negotiator getting the biggest deals in tv rights ever, every time they came around for the AFL. Unlike Dillon he was smart and charismatic enough to make close friends with Lachlan Murdoch, which flowed onto favourable national media coverage which is now dominated by the nrl.

He was also good at obtaining government funding, again something Dillon is useless at and the AFL now continually have to chip in from their own coffers for infrastructure. This is something no other sport in the country does. You may say that's right.. and it is, if all competitors are doing it too, but that's millions that could be going to grassroots and therefore producing more fans for the future. Dillon to put it bluntly, isn't respected by powerful people in Australia and that's a problem for our sport.

The AFL is responsible not just for the AFL and AFLW competitions, is also the custodian of Australian Rules Football and the laws of the game not just domestically but also worldwide. The CEO (albeit reporting to the Commission) heads the organisation that is indisputably the most important organisation in our code. Unlike FIFA or the ICC where there are powerful soccer and cricket confederations and countries (UEFA, England, Australia etc) that can standup to their sporting codes main governing body, AFL has no effective rivals in our code. This makes having the right person as AFL CEO very crucial.

The current administration is quite possibly the worst in AFL history? They have dropped the ball in the last two years giving free kicks to that nitwit V'landys and allowing a huge boost for the EPL soccer with Channel 9 and Stan. (Free to air must be a priority) Unbelievable when you think about it. The AFL needs a major overhaul during the summer, i think they know that, but i'm not sure they know how to go about it?

Although not Dillon’s fault as the previous CEO signed off on it, the new broadcasting deal that doesn’t have any nationwide Saturday matches on Free To Air, (and delays Saturday matches involving NSW/ACT/Queensland teams to those markets for the first 11 rounds) is not good for promoting our national code.

Last night for example, you had live into Melbourne on the ch9's main channel an nrl game not even involving a Melbourne team in the eels v roosters.

On the other hand, you had West coast v Sydney shoved off to the secondary channel 7 mate in both Perth and Sydney and the aflw (in a new season that needs promotion) was also on 7 mate in Melbourne, not the main channel.

Now if we had a CEO or chairman with a backbone and any influence at all, they would be on the phone to ch7 weekly demanding AFL coverage is not put on a channel with only 4% audience share. Exactly as pvl has done for his sport. How these buffoons let the sport sit out of sight out of mind in it's second biggest market and the biggest state in the country is amazing. No wonder the ratings in Perth have plummeted and people in Sydney forget the sport exists half the time.

Free to air tv will be gone within the decade like handline phones and blockbuster video.

I dont know anyone under 60 who even watches it anymore. Everyone has kayo.

I must admit i hardly watch it, a couple of the quiz shows only and sports shows, but i mostly watch Fox footy for the games. The AFL need to be careful, they are dealing with a lot of money and a lot of people who do not have access to anything else?

Yup. Not everyone has access to cable and streaming

Free to air tv is still the most watched form of tv in Australia each day, where you get a bulk audience together all in the one place at the same time.
