The current record for most All Australian guernseys stands at 8, shared by Ablett jnr, Robert Harvey and Mark Ricciuto. Discounting the fact the Ablett may well come back and end up with 9 or 10: In light of last nights AA team selection which current players are a chance to break the record?
Some current players who may be a shot:
Patrick Dangerfield (3 x AA, 25 y.o.) - Needs another 6 to break the record, but as the main man down at Geelong will get plenty of attention. Seems like he could easily play into his 30s too. Should go close but not sure he would get there.
Scott Pendlebury (5x AA, 27 y.o.) - Just 4 short of the record, probably the best chance out of the current players. This season was the first since 2009 he was not named in the team, breaking a run of 5 straight. With plenty of footy left he could easily retain his perennial AA status if Collingwood stay away from the bottom of the ladder.
Chad Wingard (2x AA, 22 y.o.) - More of a speculative pick but with 2 already in his first 4 seasons (a feat not achieved by any of Ablett, Harvey or Ricciuto) he has raced out of the block and has plenty of time on his side. His ability as a forward also helps as the selectors can sneak him in on a forward flank even if he transitions to the midfield.
Anyone I've missed?
