Tempting fate here, but it's pretty cool that we'll have the norm smith medalist from our 2024 premiership team running around for us for the next 13 years.

There'll be a nice little reminder out on the field to this great Lions year/team for a long time to come.

Nice bit of arrogance mixed with professionalism and determination with this guy, reminds me of Chris Judd in that sense (different strengths on field obviously).

On the Cats board someone asked how he compared to Ablett Junior and the response was Will was better at the same age. Scary to think he can get better.
GAJ was a late bloomer, starting as a small forward before moving into the middle and then becoming truly dominant.

Cripps, Bont and Petracca better watch out; the kids are coming for them

We are witnessing a generational takeover.

Nick Daicos’ rapid ascension into the conversation as the AFL’s best player, alongside relative veterans Marcus Bontempelli, Patrick Cripps and Christian Petracca, has thrust the game’s present and future to the forefront.

Sydney’s Errol Gulden, like Daicos, is only 22 years old but an All-Australian the past two seasons.
And the evidence across the first month of the season is that an increasing number of their 23-and-under peers are coming with a rush, too – and not just their midfield mates, but let’s start there.

Will Ashcroft won the Norm Smith Medal in last year’s grand final, and reminded everyone of his class with 33 disposals, 15 contested possessions and five clearances in the Brisbane Lions’ come-from-behind victory over Geelong on Saturday night.

If you watch Ashcroft, 20, closely at stoppages, you will notice his innate ability to know where the Sherrin is going and react before his rivals, then also make a swift decision once he wins it.

His coach, Chris Fagan, described his game at the weekend as his best yet.

Match Report: Lions still kings of the QClash

Ashcroft wins his dad’s medal
It was destined to happen at one stage, but it took Will Ashcroft just three matches against Gold Coast to win his first Marcus Ashcroft Medal – named after his father – for the best player afield. Ashcroft was magnificent in the slippery conditions, finishing with 34 disposals that included nine clearances. He bobbed up all over the field and was the ideal link from stoppages into the front half of the ground. Younger brother Levi (29 disposals) was also a standout in his first QClash.

Five Lions roar their way into 22Under22 team

The exciting future of the Brisbane Lions has been further highlighted following the announcement of the 2025 AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 Team of the Year.

It was a Lions domination with five players selected in the team, the most representatives of any AFL club.

The quintet named was Darcy Wilmot, Jaspa Fletcher, Logan Morris as well as Will and Levi Ashcroft.

The exciting young group were all included in the initial squad before being voted into the final 22 by AFL fans across the country.

Wilmot was named in a back pocket with Fletcher on a back flank, Will Ashcroft starting in the midfield, Morris at full forward and Levi Ashcroft on the interchange.
