He's only 30 and he's kicked 846, only 154 to go, and if he plays most games for the next five seasons, I'd say it's most probable. He'd only need an average of 20 something goals a season, or at least one goal a game. I think he'll be in pretty good form for the next 2-3 years at least.

Curious how many goals Plugger and Piggy had kicked when they turned 30?
Lockett had 1124 but the end of his turned-30 season. Dunstall had 1011.

Kidding, right?

As he gets older, and presumably less mobile, will the Swans plant him in the goal square?
Hmm, interesting. It's not his natural role, that's for sure. He's not the greatest overhead mark, let's face it. So many of his goals come from him spilling the ball to the ground and running it forward. He needs more than a goal square to do that in.

I for one fear that for Buddy - much as he's playing so wondrously at the moment and is such a joy to watch - that more so than many other players, when the end comes, it will come quickly.

Take the Ablett Snr route. Bulk up and wrestle for marks. Still mobile enough to lead from the square though.

Does anyone know what the career record for behinds is? Is it the 640 of Dunstall that you've noted?

If so, Buddy's a certainty to reach that "target". I wonder if we get to invade the ground when he kicks the record breaking behind...
Kevin Bartlett kicked 777 behinds.
Leigh Matthews 722.
Jason Dunstall 641.

So he's got 154 goals to go for the century and 167 behinds to go to equal Bartlett (let's make that 168 to hold the record outright). He's going just over 50% accuracy this season. If he starts taking even more pings from 50m (or just has a few really off days in the next couple of seasons), he could well pass both marks in the same game.

Late in 1995 Plugger hit the 100 goals for the season and 1000 career goals in the same match (at the SCG) and we had two ground invasions in quick succession. Didn't think we'd get to see that again.

It would be amazing to have Buddy kick his 1000's goal at a packed SCG just like Plugger did for his 1300th goal.

140 goals to go now.

He's 14 goals behind Peter McKenna, 55 goals behind Leigh Matthews, 66 behind Matthew Lloyd and 110 behind Titus and 40+ in front of now 11th place Bernie Quinlan.

Um nope. he'll have a devastating hammy and leave the game in two years with only another fifty added to the tally.

The whole idea of getting Plugger in was to teach him how to change his game, plant him in the forward, take the contested mark and slot set shots.... He will change his style into the twilight of his career and will make 1000 goals easily in my opinion.

I hope he makes it too, I'd love to be there to see the big Bud get the 1000, after all he got 580 of those goals at the club I support!
