Given the news in regards to the Suns seeking support via the draft from the AFL - Can Carlton too be given assistance? Again.

After last season being very shred with their bonus assets given by the AFL; Carlton yet are still struggling in regards to wins.

Will the AFL seek to give the blues pick 1 or 2 at the top of the draft? of perhaps a end of first round draft selection / selection rights to state players, again?

The case can be made it is best for the AFL to have a stronger and winning Carlton than the current state?

I don't think we need one, nor do i think we'll get one.

but it's hard to put together an objective argument for the gold coast to get one and carlton not to.

gold coast 2017: 6-16
carlton 2017: 6-16

gold coast 2018: 4-18
carlton 2018: 2-20

gold coast 2019: 3-12 (3 single digit losses)
carlton 2019: 3-12 (4 single digit losses)

I thought that is why they traded there best pick away last year??? To get a handout.

For what its worth 19 years of hell is not enough, try 30 plus years of hell think you may have an invitation to the table!!

The AFL don't hand them out. Clubs make applications for them and the AFL consider that.

Carlton have not given any indication they will apply this year

They'll probably get an end of 1st round pick. They won't get a early pick not should they considering they idiotically traded away their first pick this year. Having uncompetitive teams is bad for the competition so I hope they can sort their s**t out. They have enough of a young core to work with to create a good team in 3-5 years.

Not while their percentage is 81%.
That's higher than both the Demons and the Saints.

Surely it must be one of the highest percentages ever for a team in 17th.

Honestly think Carlton will respond next year. Not top 8 just yet but they’ll be on the way up the ladder. As for who falls out it’s anyone’s guess. Reckon under Teague they’ve been a lot better, and they’ll probably get a big coaching scalp at year end. Teague will stay on as a senior assistant. I reckon they will get a big name.

Amazing how things have looked more positive under Teague.

essentially the same thing

Carlton have not given any indication they will apply this year

but they might, more so if the continue to not add many more wins.

As noted above Carlton are entitled to these hand out picks if the Suns are getting them again this year - itd be very temping Carlton have a very talented young lot another priority picks or two could make a substantial difference in the long run adding that extra layer of talent.

I firmly believe in the Blues had landed Shiel instead of the pick swap last year and had then added another good mature player this year - a Charlie Cameron would be perfect - that they'd only be a year away from a Brisbane like launch. All of the other important pieces are there and when they have enough senior players in the right positions - Simpson/Thomas at half back, Murphy/Curnow around the ball - and good coaching they look good.

The Suns are still a year or two away but if they want to improve faster they need to stop hoarding kids and overpay for some good ready made players. If they haven't got the salary cap space to offer a big money deal to some free agents or B+ players then that's an issue the AFL should look at. Given them 200k a year extra on the salary cap for 2 years if that's whats needed to land some mature talent, hide it in ambassador payments. If it's in a trade then it doesn't disadvantage the rest of the comp.

The only thing stopping the AFL from handing GC a priority pick last year was us finishing below them.

This year the rules (hah!) will be retrofitted to the desired outcome (with all due consideration, in the fullness of time, etc.). Same as every other year really.
