We are losing games by 10-15 minute lapses.
Just add the players we have on the sidelines and instantly we become a 3-4 win better team at this point of the season.

Adding Cogs plus others, plus development of younger players, and I can see us becoming contenders next season.

I'm still on board with this. We aren't getting blown away in games which is good. Our issue is we have lapses that cost us dearly. When we have those lapses most of the time we're good enough to get back into the game, see Richmond, Geelong West coast & Carlton matches. But the fact we have to get back into it, is what kills us. Bring those lapses down from 3,4 5 goals to 1-2 goals and we improve drastically. Also we need to kick straight. That would help

4 consecutive losses :(

It's hardly been a disaster though.
I could handle getting a top 3-4 pick on the back of those kinds of losses.

One thing Clarko wont be doing and thats going to carlton.

Guy could practically pick is place if he wanted to move, im tipping Carlton with their rwisted directors and admin would be almost at the end on any hypothetical list

Clarko has his work cut out but if anyone can do it he can.

I feel like we'll need to land a few A graders in the draft as well as the usual trading for big names to be in with a real shot, since by 2022 most of the triple premiership heroes will be gone or cooked. Right now our list is in the bottom half of the league for sheer talent in prime playing age and we're a long way off being a threat kicking 70 points a game.

Clarko is doing the same list building he was doing in the lead up to the 3-peat, when he was recruiting specific players in non-key positions to play certain roles. For example, Gibbo was just a flanker, Hale just a backup ruck, Burgoyne just an ageing utility. This time around, he needed to replace the nucleus as well because we no longer have Hodge, Mitchell, et al. So he goes and gets O'Meara and Tom Mitchell, who come into the club in a blaze of glory (we're far too humble to mention Cogs until November). Meanwhile, we're still chugging along and doing the same surreptitious recruiting, such as Impey as just a flanker, likewise Scrimshaw, Wingard into a forward pocket... When it all clicks, we suddenly have a team of very able players covering most positions on the ground. Astute recruiting of players such as Sicily, Hardwick and Worpel fills in the gaps nicely, leaving everyone else scratching their heads again wondering how we're suddenly competing for another flag so quickly.

He has as good of a chance as any, because despite what is said about us from the outside - we still have the following potential A-Grade players for their position at their peak for the next 3-5 years:

T Mitchell
C Wingard
J O'Meara
J Gunston
L Breust
J Sicily
T Scully
B McEvoy

We also have the following guys who are developing, and will continue to develop into very good footballers:

J Worpel
J Scrimshaw
B Hardwick
J Impey

If we can continue to build depth around this core, we are not anywhere near a side that finishes where we're going to finish this year.

We've gone from our best players being majority 30+ to our best players all being between 24-29 over the course of around 2-3 years. It's unbelievable all things considered, and does not get the credit it deserves. We were on the cusp that Brisbane were on in 2004 and have remarkably avoided it.

Exactly. Add Coniglio, a fit Patton, McGuinness, nail an early pick and play some more moneyball and we are looking good.

Fantastic post, and yes... I'm a believer

It all clicked when Hale n Lake arrived (not young by any stretch). The sum was much more than the parts

Yep, Lake was the final piece of the puzzle, and a very important piece too. Here for three years to win three premierships. No coincidence there.

If it happens, great! if not I think the aim is to hand over to Sammy to have a sustained crack at one for the years following.
