Wow, going off this thread I assume trolling Essendon on the main board is all good?

Will make note for future Essendon threads.

Just some thoughts.

First. For Essendon supporters clinging onto the hope that their midfield is as good as or close to being the eqyal of West Coast. Has it occurred to you that the reason why people rate WC as way ahead is because their forward line and backline are both far ahead of yours.

Second. Yes we know you beat Carlton but this is most likely just an anomaly. With the exception of Watson, I can't think of a single Essendon player who would get a game in Carlton's midfield. In fact even Watson is not really required since Judd and Murphy both do a better job than him on the inside and are far superior on the spread.

Third, this thread wasn't started by an Essendon supporter but it is clear many dons posting in this thread clearly think they are a show to win the flag this year or next. These supporters must have very short memories because it seems to me that every year Essendon charge out of the blocks and then spend the second half of the year being pathetic.

Fourth. Lol at the poster who said Peter Somerville was a quality player.

Just some though.

Watson is definitely superior on the inside.
Secondly Heppell if played in the mids would get a game. So would Stanton, and if Lucas can get a game so would Melksham. But the while this player wouldn't get a game in that teams midfield is a bad example.

I'm sorry but that is just garbage I don't think it dignifies a response.

Secondly, none of us have ever stated that we are in flag contention this year or even in 2013. Show me a quote that proves otherwise.

Stanton has always been a champion...
And how are they "the form" Victorian side, ladder position and the fact they almost got beaten by GC would suggest otherwise.
No they will not win the flag, not even in this cycle unless they do some big F/A moves in the next couple of seasons. To my mind they will be a WBD of the last 4 years, always quick and explosive but inconsitent and will never do better than a prelim.

Funny because that is how I see Carlton. Lots of midfield flair. some damaging small forwards and a decent backline. However, a lack of tough inside mids and real power forwards means there will never be any success deep into the finals.

Essendon is not a flag threat this year. I think they'll turn the half way mark with only 1 or 2 losses but it will turn very quickly with the next game against Freo @ Subi then a lot of other top sides including Geelong, Hawthorn, Carl, Collingwood, Saints and 2 games in Adelaide. The only saving grace there is that we play Hawks and Geelong at Docklands.

We'll probably see the bombers limp into the finals with confidence shot. I along with most Essendon supporters would go home happy with one finals win this year. This is of course far above what most supporters of other teams expected of them this year.

They need to get another year or two of Melksham, Colyer, Carlisle, Heppell, Hurley, Pears, Hooker, Zaharakis, Myers and Bellchambers playing together and with the more established players in the side. The first and second year players need to be pushing harder to make the side too.

While this thread is funny for being deliberately premature there is a lot to be excited about as a bomber supporter going forward. While there isn't any top 3 picks, unfortunately Gumby has had so much bad luck, there is a lot of depth through all positions on the ground as has been demonstrated over the last 6 games. The players competed well against lesser teams in the first 3 rounds while they were still under a heavy training load, then dismantled Carlton and nearly backed it up against Collingwood 4 days later.

Have to laugh at this post.

If you think Watson, Stanton or Zaharakis wouldn't get a run in there you're kidding yourself. Hell if Curnow or Lucas can get a run, as stated above, Hocking and Melksham would aswell.

And Carlton's mids are better than yours, so they'd get a gig in your side aswell.

The West Coast Essendon midfield comparison was made when someone said that Essendon can't win in finals because they don't have a midfield the quality of west coast's among others. No one was claiming essendon's side is equal to that of the eagles.
