Have to agree that for now Essendon have too many players that are outside and like to pick and choose to win a flag. Those types of players and teams always get shown up in September.

Just wait till these defenders begin to get found out against the teams who start peaking later in the season.
Essendon have been playing their best football at the wrong time of the year and flogs like Matthew Lloyd jumped on them and talked them up causing the sheep to follow and take notice.

virtually every side has put in at least one absolute shocker this year. we had ours last night. your entitled to your opinion, but if your so reactive that a loss of under a goal has you writing a team off then your opinion isn't very good.

writing off teams this year after one bad loss would leave you with not a single team left being "contenders". this is not 2007-2011, where you had only a couple of very dominant sides, this is a much more even year when each side can push any other on a given day.

tbh, i don't think we've produced anywhere near our best in a lot of games so far this year, there's been some really poor performances against NM, Port, GC, Melbourne obviously and the second half against richmond was quite abysmal. yet the team sits 8-2 without looking in any way to have "peaked" (wtf does that mean anyway??).

im not happy to have lost to melbourne, but writing a side off after a narrow loss is just sensationalism.

collingwood lost to brisbane and drew with melbourne in their premiership year.

shit nights happen. what's concerning for essendon isn't the fact they lost to melbourne per se, it's that it was another poor performance akin to that against gold coast and the third/fourth qtr of the richmond game.

the midfield group still goes missing at times/workrate drops off and too much is left for watson to do. less so than in previous years but still too often for them to win the flag this year.
