Will Geelong fans show respect to Selwood and Gablett when they retire this year?

I hope so. Past history doesn't look good for them.

HOW do you show your respect to a legend of your footy club?

You leave early before he gets chaired off.

That’s what you do.

Thousands of Cats fans headed for the exits yesterday at Simonds Stadium before Corey Enright was chaired off for his 300th game.

LING DISAPPOINTED

Some who had come long distances, understandably, wanted to beat the traffic, especially given the late finish on a Sunday night.

In some sections it looked like more Melbourne supporters paid their respects than Geelong supporters.

Many, though, were obviously annoyed at the ordinary performance Geelong put in against a side that hadn’t won down here in a decade.

Was it that hard to hang around for the final siren and a few minutes after to see Enright off the ground?

Would there have been the same stampede for the exit had the Cats been five goals in front?

Lots of Geelong supporters stuck it out and credit to each of them, but there should have been more.

There remains a fickle underbelly with some Geelong supporters. These supporters, of course, have ridden the glory years for a decade, rejoiced in premierships, witnessed some of the game’s all time greats.

Enright, of course, was at the heart of it all, winning best and fairest awards in premiership years, collecting All-Australian gongs along the way and being hailed as one of the best small defenders of the modern era.

Only three players in Geelong’s 160 years of history have ever played this many games. If the Team of the Century was recast, he would be in it.

But the Geelong bandwagon is losing some passengers. Crowds are diminishing. Membership has stalled. Bean counters at the Cats admit there’s pressure on Geelong’s bottom line because of it.

The glory days will probably never be replicated but Enright remains a surviving member of that dominance.

It’s just a shame so many people weren’t there to say thank you.

@nick_wade Unreal Watching from Hobart I was extremely disappointed in my fellow fans!

If ever there was a pair who deserved to be jeered & hissed off the ground in their final game this is it. Selwood particularly, who's done more to destroy football than anyone since James Hird... not that he'll remember any of it years from now with all the concussion effects from ducking his head so often.

Probably the biggest faux tough to ever play the game. Imagine finishing your career with 400+ more high tackle frees than the next best...:drunk:

Being the selfish pr*ck that he is, Jiblett won't be retiring until the Sun engulfs the Earth and Duckwood won't retire until his winning record as captain in finals reaches double figures. In other words, the same day as Scablett
