Opinion Will Geelong's boutique home ground ruin the Cats final chances?

There are people (mostly not Geelong supporters, granted) who complain about the MCG and not getting enough time on it, given grand finals (and in Geelong's case, several home finals) are played there. This thread follows that logic, wondering if Geelong are at a disadvantage in finals with their skinny ground. That may or may not be the case, all I'm saying is there's no valid complaint on those grounds for Geelong given the timeframe, just as there isn't for either WA club given they built a new stadium recently.

The home final thing is silly though, and the AFL really ought to stop kissing the MCC's behinds at Geelong's expense.

Don't be fooled by the OP, the only logic the thread follows is the twisted mind of the OP who has been moaning about Geelong in just about every thread he pops into.

It’s no different to playing in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney.

Last year WC were basically given no chance after their horror 2015 GF showing yet managed to claw back the game and win.

Who is playing their for the first time? Jesus mate you really are struggling to piece together a decent argument here.
Never had a decent argument. Just another dimwit Tiger fan who doesn't like us and wants to have a sook.

You've got an unfair advantage and it gets you to the finals ,you struggle to win finals at the G for whatever reason.

Interstate clubs deserve a home ground advantage because of the massive travel they have to do.Being 50minutes away doesn't make Geelong an interstate team. They get all the advantages of say West Coast, yet West Coast is 4,500km away, Geelong is 90km away.
Plus the crowd at Kardinia Park is 90%Geelong supporters as they don't let many oppo supporters in.

Richmond should move back to Punt Road then if it’s such a big issue for them

So what, they can play wherever they like.

Was it unfair to the rest of the completions when we had windy hill, princes park, Victoria park, western oval, moorabin etc?

I’d like more Vic sides to have their own home grounds, not less.
What would happen if Collingwood wanted to move back to Victoria Park ? They wouldn't allow it.

They will face incredible disadvantage just as we did last year when undefeated at the MCG and in Melbourne in general.

Silly thread. Geelong's only loss this year was at Kardinia Park. If they fail in September it's because they haven't improved as much from the last few years as it appears they have at this point of the season.

Eddie McGuire said:
“The AFL own the finals series. It used to be that you got a home state final, not a home ground final ... it’s a major driver of money.

“If it is a benefit (to play a final) at Simonds Stadium, no problem whatsoever. But the finals are about making money for the competition, that’s the way it has always been and should be.”

Eddie would want Collingwood to play finals at the MCG, wouldn't he?

If they were paying for it all they would. How could the AFL stop it?

I’m disappointed we left Princes Park. Dogs are looking at potentially having some games at Whitten oval eventually, is that unfair?

All games in Ballarat, Hobart, Alice springs , Darwin and Cairns are also unfair I’m sure with your warped logic

The real question is with a Thursday final now in the picture what will it take for a Marvel Stadium final?

Doesn't look like an Marvel tenants are likely to finish top 6 this year but if it's Essendon/North vs Adelaide in week 1 will the AFL use Marvel? They own it now, but they also have a contract to fulfill with the MCC.

You've got an unfair advantage and it gets you to the finals ,you struggle to win finals at the G for whatever reason.

By your logic Richmond has a doubly unfair advantage, playing more than their fair share of home games AND the GF being played at their home venue. I think you'd agree that the GF should be played at a stadium where no team plays at all throughout the year, just to ensure the season is fair. Which is what you care about - not some weird and frankly sad issue dripping from your fingers all over the internet for all to see.

We play games at home. We have struggled to win finals because whilst we've been good we just haven't quite been good enough. We played a final at our 'unfair' home ground not so long ago. And for all the sooking about it we lost somewhat comfortably for the same reason we lost finals anywhere else. Not good enough.

This thread has been taken over by the Geelong army, you guys are really up and about at the moment.

Geelong incredibly get 7 to 8 home games at Kardinia Park every year. It's a ground they play well, but it bares little resemblance to the MCG where finals are played. Is this skinny ground ruining their premiership chances?
Don't know about Geelong's final chances, seems to be ruining Richmond's final chances alright :$

Geelong's recent finals results haven't really gone to script anyway.

2018 lost to Melbourne (MGG tenant)
2017 lost to Richmond (MCG tenant), beat Sydney, lost to Adelaide at AO
2016 beat Hawthorn (MCG tenant), lost to Sydney.
2014 lost to Hawthorn, lost to North
2013 lost to Freo at KP
, beat Port, lost to Hawthorn
2012 lost to Freo

Can't really attribute the bolded to some inherent advantage/disadvantage. Creamed MCG tenants in some of the flag years.

We have a winning record on almost every ground in the competition since 2011.

Do some f***ing research you absolute peasant.

We make the finals because we routinely towel up opponents no matter where we play. Deal with it you perpetual sook
