Saw today that Mike Sheahan had Hall ranked 3rd best player in the league in his pre-season Top 50, but obviously due to injury (groin and knee) Hall was a shadow of his former self this year.

I'm not convinced he can bounce back from these injuries. Have we seen the best of Barry Hall ?

I hope not. When up and firing he is almost unstoppable. Lets not forget that he was severley restrained by injuries this year. He didn't train, and he was rotated through the bench quite alot. It's hard to expect a guy who plays like he does to be at his best with physical problems such as this.

I'm not sure whether we will see him back at his best next year, but he will have a much bigger impact than he did this year. If he can kick 50 or so goals then it would be a great result for him and the team.

We have to remember that Barry Hall's injury was just as serious as Chris Judd's. If Judd can be fit for next season then i see no reason why Barry Hall cant be fit aswell.

But you have to remember he's not as young as Judd which may come into play in a negative way. Too bad if it happens, he's a cracker when he wigs out and has the ability to turn games on their head. On a slightly different note, whats this i hear abotu Bazza thinking about turning Pro Boxer?....down Freo way we have our own little slugger wannabe in Des Headland, but they're usually laughed off as just Des being drunk having delousions of grandeur, but Hall's rumours seem to have a bit more cred.

Im not a doctor or anything but i would imagine that 30 year olds would recover for surgery reasonably quickly and it wouldnt be alot longer recovery than a 25 year old.

well the actual 'physiological' side of recovery wouldn't change much no, your right there but what I meant was in the fitness side of recovery, the older you get the more it take to put on muscel/loose fat and keep up fitness, so i guess we'll see

i'm gonna push this barrow again.

i think they should try him down at C/H/B straighten him up and let him bang crash thru the centre square.

Little YMCA

I am warming to this possiblity even though I have been argumentative before.... worth a try maybe

Hall must learn not to push but charge and jump with no hands!

The opposition definitely crap em self when he is on a straight charge and believe it or not I think LRT would be a chance at CHF!

agree on L.R.T people forget he's only played 80 odd games of actual footy.

if you don't have a jonathan brown or a tredrea you put someone there who will give you a contest and make sure you have people front and square for when the ball hits the ground

there's no reason L.R.T couldn't do IT though if we pick up miller this becomes a none subject hahahahah... unless of course he plays C.H.F

This week will be interesting.

Miller has played some really good games but there is some sort of problem that maybe the Bloods culture can fix?

He is the sort that could be taught to play FB! which would fix a lot of woes ( Leo Barry you star! but he is finished at that spot).... sheesh wouldn't it be good to get another Dunkley!:thumbsu:

yes another dunks with better kicking skills [sorry dunks]:)

It looked ugly ... nah embarrasing.:o..!!!!!... but most kicks were effective !

He was the most under rated player in a long list of sensational F'Backs that SMFC and Swans have had.

Had he not hit Hird hard prelim 1996 we wouldn't have been there and lucky to have got off Supreme court injunction but if he had been on his game he would have nullified Carey and we would be 2 flags in a decade!

the turning point for me was when :eek:ade took luff [who was dominating up forward] and put him in the backline.

we should have had that premiership and maybe[who knows] 2006 premiership really does belong to the swans.

i hope and pray cousins never comes out and says ''YES" the drugs did enhance my performance. :(

come on, people....can we drop this crud about the 06 GF....cousins was one player, okay, a very good player, but the game's in the record books, west coast's 22 beat our 22 by a point in a cracker and the cousins drug thing is irrelevant ... in a one-point game like that, we can all find a hundred little incidents that could've changed the game, and no one can tell me cousins was that far superior to every other player on the field that it cost us the game

as for barry hall, the boxing thing is genuine, he has trained with johnny lewis (of jeff fenech, et al fame) at various times since coming to sydney and lewis himself says hall has the boxing ability and athelticism to be good enough now to win the australian heavyweight title (probly not saying a lot) and then have a crack at the international circuit....boxing is such a corrupt game though, you never know how he'd go, but he'd make some serious money giving it a crack if he wanted to
in fact, i think one of lewis' quotes a coupla years ago was to the effect hall could "make $10 million" in boxing

Yes he will be,but it will take time.IMO the Swans should have spent some money and sent Hall to europe for the groin operation. They seem to recover and get back a lot quicker than what the players do here.

It has been on my mind for a while now - Magic has struggled this year at FF and got most of his possessions on the flanks and at the side pockets and Hall has just struggled...is it time to abandon the Hybrid FF/CHF we have for Hall and start him in the Goal Square? And play O'Keefe in a more traditional CHF role?

Instead of trying to get Hall to grab 15 disposals a game running up the ground, maybe it's better for him to focus in the goal square. As much as I can't stand Gehrig, he was unstoppable for a few years and kicked 103, 78, 71 in the previous three years, while not a particular good contested mark, Gehrig was strong and a fast lead and that brought him his goals - And Hall has very similar traits (and their conversion rates are fairly similar too, excluding this years).

I agree. People say that the original role of a Full Forward is dead but i dont think thats true. I think Hall can do what Plugger did for us years ago. Just stand in 1 position taking marks while having 3 defenders hanging off him.

When he has 3 defenders hang off him, maybe we can try NOT kicking it to him - something that we failed miserably this year. :p
