Is there any onus on the club to help him with his concussions. Surely we cant just wash our hands of the situation
We didnt wash our hands of the Seedsman situation, however he was forced to retire.

Will hasnt quite got there yet, or maybe he has and he hasnt announced it.

I dont think you're ever over them as such. I reckon he's one or two away from it all being over
Unfortunately he will probably have issues later in life, but didn't he go through the whole season without a concussion?

Was pleased for him as I thought his career was over.

The irony is we cut him after he appeared to be over most of his issues.
He avoided further concussions thankfully. But I think he would always be at risk due to whaterver mechanical/awareness issues there are in how he plays.

There was a moment in his first game back this year where he ran onto a loose ball in the back line, and momentarily stumbled (leading with his head in the process) in front of the oncoming pack of big Carlton forwards and Adelaide defenders. for about 2 seconds I thought I was about to watch him be put into a coma.

Also, in 4 seasons of full length games he never exceeded his best output of 2020.

I believe he did yeah which is/was great.

I wonder what else is out there for him after footy
He's currently studying Engineering at uni.

He'll be fine, smart kid, great family.
As another poster said, studying engineering and no doubt if he doesn't get picked up as a rookie by another AFL team (I believe Richmond were having a look) he'll earn nice $$ playing top level suburban down here on the Peninsula

I thought he showed enough to be given another contract. Deserves a spot somewhere on a list, but if he's got plenty going for him outside of footy, which it sounds like he has, take up a non-contact sport for fun, enjoy life and enjoy the footy watching from the sidelines.

Good luck to the lad.
Some very nice words about his time in Adelaide, always thought there was a player there just had a shit run with concussions.

Father-son gun Will Hamill eager to show his dash for Frankston Dolphins

Steve Hamill was a much respected player and leader at Frankston. He wore No. 9 – and 30 years later his son, coming off a six-year stint at Adelaide, will wear the same jumper with pride.

He’ll be busy but football remains a priority for the 24-year-old, who “loved’’ his time with the Crows.

“I’ve got so many close friends over there and I loved the town of Adelaide and the football club.

“I didn’t end up staying there for as long as I would have liked, but I’m grateful for the six years I had. I ended up playing against every single team, which was pretty good.

“I’d love to be able to get back into the AFL. That’s definitely an ambition. But for me it’s about enjoying my footy this year. I can play my best on the back of that.’’

Hamill was drafted from the Dandenong Stingrays after their breakthrough 2018 premiership in the TAC Cup (now the Coates Talent League).

From that Stingrays side, Hayden Young, Lachlan Young, Zac Foot, Toby Bedford, Bailey Williams, Matt Cottrell and Sam Sturt went on to play in the AFL. Defender Hamill went at pick 30, with the Crows’ third selection in the national draft.

Injuries held him back, particularly concussions. It was reported last October that he had six knocks to the head. But Hamill says he’s quite OK.

“It’s been a while since I’ve had one, maybe two, three years. I’m pretty confident it was just the poor luck I’ve had,’’ he says.

“I did some pretty heavy testing when it happened and they cleared me. The fact that I didn’t have any ongoing issues … once I had one, I was usually fine after a couple of days … I consider myself pretty lucky.’’
Frankston coach Jackson Kornberg says Hamill is a class player. But there was more to it than recruiting him for his ability off half-back, he says.

“To be honest, it was about Will the person.

“Any time you go through recruiting … there are talented players everywhere … but we target the type of people we want at our footy club and everything we heard about Will – I know a couple of the boys who play in Adelaide – just drew us to him because of the person he was.

“He’s been able to bring in so much, as a character and a personality and a footballer. He knows what training intensity and training standards are and he knows what the game demands. I’m not saying he’s the absolute loudest person on the track. But when he says something, everyone just stops and listens. That’s the affect he’s having.’’

Sounds like a great lad. It's sad we couldn't hold onto him.

Footy's a tough business and good people like Will get delisted by every club every year.

Good luck to the lad, hope he gets an extended run at things concussion-free.

Actually think he was playing ok footy whenever he was last in the side prior to whatever minor injury pushed him back out.

This is the issue with Hamill. People have selective memories. He was dropped twice before he got hurt.

*edit - Forgot the finger injury - He only got hurt once in 2024 - he was just pretty bad.

Here is his 2024 timeline.

Played SANFL round 1 which happened after between rounds 3-4 of AFL.

Called up to play AFL rounds 5-7 - Dropped due to form.

Plays next two games of SANFL and gets a call up.

Recalled to AFL team and plays round 10 and gets dropped back. to SANFL.

Plays 1 SANFL game (misses rd 8 SANFL so he can play AFL) and gets recalled to AFL side for next 3 weeks (13-16).

*EDIT Gets hurt round 16 after hurting his finger and misses 4 weeks and plays the last month in the SANFL.

Hamill simply wasn't good in 2024. He got dropped twice after playing AFL football. Injuries / Concussions could have derailed his development, but it's more likely he just wasn't good enough.

Hamill simply wasn't good in 2024. He was completely healthy and played every possible game. He got dropped 3 times after playing AFL football. Injuries / Concussions could have derailed his development, but its more likely he just wasn't good enough.

He was ok, but we had other players who had surpassed him in their output. He had some good run at times.

He was a half back that couldn't find the ball
