It will be interesting to see if any of the kids (Long, Hayes, Allan, Sullivan) are part of September. In 2010 a number of veterans were pushed out of the team by Sidey, Blair, Beams and McCaffer.

I don't think it will happen this year except for Long. This year our veterans are playing well, a couple of them having their best seasons for a while, and we still have JDG, Maynard, Shultz and Lippa to comeback.

At this stage it will be injury not form that will get them a game come September. The old buggers are still getting it done.
Long is a certainty to play. Maybe he will keep Mitchell out or maybe they both play, but Long is a lock.

Can’t see too many veterans being pushed out in September . Cox has already been pushed, WHE is on the cusp. Outside chance Mihocek is omitted if injuries are reducing his impact. Membrey was recruited as depth but is certain selection whilst he maintains his consistent form.

Jordy needs to prove his fitness and fitness reliability but fully fit, plays.

Will Hayes looks to have good footy smarts, and decent pace, he's just not dialled up to AFL level physically yet.

The big occasion and the defensive pressure got to him a bit yesterday, and he made some 'deer in the headlights' type errors, but he will get through that with more experience.

Think he will break through and be a player, but not in this, his first year.

Done well to get a few games whilst others are injured and this will put him in good stead for next year.

Yeah he’s not ready, but it’s his first year and the fact that he’s cracked into the best team in the comp already, shows that he’s developing really well and that the coaches clearly rate him highly.

His game yesterday was far from a disaster, just a young player who was out of his depth . Glad he got his first goal though!

I might be misreading these stats but to me, it doesn't look like Will had a terrible game.
His stats look better than Sully's, his disposal efficiency was 88.9%, that looks pretty good to me.
On a day with difficult conditions, his second AFL match, I think he did pretty well. View attachment 2339267
I thought he showed good promise. Encouraging to see him involved in the game, shows his running patterns are strong.

Over-awed at times, but given our upcoming draw wouldn’t be opposed to giving him a few more games.

This....

There's plenty for his review but the good news is that he was getting to the right spots and his teammates continued to hit him up. That speaks volumes.

By no means a great day, but plenty to build on and learn from. I suspect it would be an encouraging review albeit filled with 'rookie' errors.

He's a youngster in his 2nd game that played in what felt like finals footy.
He might not be ready yet, but I have no doubt he'll be a very good player in the years to come.
Pretty sure I saw a flog comment on him in the matchday thread that said he was trash from a fellow 'supporter'. Probably speaks more about the poster than Willy Hayes. Keep smashing it kid!

Good on Will. Kicked his first goal, played in the toughest match that Billy Frampton said he’s ever played in (Melbourne were huge in their pressure throughout the match). For a skinny second match teenager, he’s gunna be a good one. A lot to like. Welcome to Collingwood young Will Hayes.

small forward spots will be extremely tight next year especially with Harvey Harrison returning from his acl
Jamie Elliott (at 33 probably will have quieter year but could still chip in for 23-28 goals) , Bobby Hill , Beau McCreery , Harvey Harrison , Will Hoskin-Elliott (kept as a delist and re-rookie you suspect in a best case scenario for all parties) , Will Hayes , Lachie Schultz and Lachie Sullivan we have claims to the best group of small forwards in the league

the WHE player card being highlighted wasn't intentional lol i'm probably his biggest fan but it wasn't intentional

Love the Hosk mention.

On the cusp and given the strength of our team most likely not in our firsts come finals time, but I think he is not far off, already okay depth, and I thought his game was superior to Sullivan.

It's his first year, but, that aside, what you say is correct.

Only if form or injury forces them out. Otherwise I doubt it. They aren’t dropping either of them on the hope that Jordy can not only get through a game but can get back to his best.
Yes you would want him fit and building good form, but it would be so tempting for the match committee. We all remember last qtr 2023 GF

And if they want him, young Jai Saxena.
