Will Hayward
Spritely Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward enjoyed a rocketing start to his career as he became the 11th-youngest player in the AFL era to reach 50 career goals in 2018. The 2016 draftee’s nippy pace and cunning goal awareness have made him a dangerous option in coach John Longmire’s forward line. A broken jaw and a persistent hip injury limited Hayward to just 12 goals in 13 senior games in 2019, but the South Australian is attacking the 2020 campaign on the back of his first full pre-season. Don’t be surprised if the exciting Swan finds himself on a wing this year.

Will Hayward
DOB: 26 October 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #21, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Walkerville (SA)/North Adelaide (SANFL)

I guess look at this way who are the top 5-6 medium forwards in the game and is Will one of them?

Do we actually use him effectively, it's a hard ****en job in our forward line. He just doesn't have a plan b or alternative role he can take , like Papley goes into the centre for instance.

I think Hayward and Florent are both good in a good side, if the team goes to shit they just go worse, they aren't changing the result , they are the cherry on top.

People saying is he overpaid ok maybe but if he is on 400k are we happier with him?

On about 700k a year
The average salary for an AFL player in 2025 is $460,000. For players who have made at least one senior appearance, the average annual earnings are $493,592.

i dont think 700k is actually all that much for a guy who has been best 22 for the better part of a decade.

that would be how much bailey fritsch is on or zac bailey or any of the medium forward types that have played as often as he has.

i dont think criticising him for the salary he is on is very meaningful. i think the issue much more signfiicantly is how we ended up with such uncompettiive tall forwards (did we prioritise buddy for ten years and never needed anything behind him ?) such that we end up looking for medium forwards to be both our best marking target and our key defender for any exit kick because the tall ones could barely out manouvre the queen mary

big dollars , what's Papley on? must be sinking almost 2 mill on these two.

Package them together maybe for 4 players on 500k who can be consistent :p

Hayward as much as I don't mind him wouldn't be picked for the Crows this saturday night right now , given that was the supposed interest wasn't it?

yeah as inconsistent as Hayward ,

What's he paid ?

plus injured AGAIN!

Or not holding Paps to the same standards that you hold Mills and Hayward ?

He is 29 mate and injury prone atm

If somthing comes up and he ain’t looking like at our next run then 100 I would of we were to get somthing good

he hasn't laid a tackle since covid :p

In all seriousness let's say's hayward and Paps cost us 1.7 combined

Could spread that more evenly into mids and be a win a win

McLean and Hayward had 1 tackle between them , so much for his forward pressure , i see you found a friend in NC
Even James Bell put more forward pressure on

I didn't say anything apart from we all have our whipping boys and trust me Paps has done more than Doozy boy
Has he though? Do the player comparison on footy wire and check.

They really aren't that dissimilar in stats it's just that to you, the sun shines out of Papleys arse and Will can't do anything right.
Will's having a mare of a season, like most of the team, so I'm not by any means singing his praises, but your constant griping about his uselessness whilst never admitting Papley hasn't been great the last few years is really starting to grate on my nerves.

J if you care to go back i have been critical of him , but he has the energy that get's the team going and your language about the sun shines out of his arse is shocking
Also one player has an AA and the other never will , also kicked 5 for Victoria in a game , Doosy boy wouldn't get a game for SA
Good to see Nool has appeared again
Thanks for all those stats as well
