Will Hayward
Spritely Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward enjoyed a rocketing start to his career as he became the 11th-youngest player in the AFL era to reach 50 career goals in 2018. The 2016 draftee’s nippy pace and cunning goal awareness have made him a dangerous option in coach John Longmire’s forward line. A broken jaw and a persistent hip injury limited Hayward to just 12 goals in 13 senior games in 2019, but the South Australian is attacking the 2020 campaign on the back of his first full pre-season. Don’t be surprised if the exciting Swan finds himself on a wing this year.

Will Hayward
DOB: 26 October 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #21, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Walkerville (SA)/North Adelaide (SANFL)

To be honest and let’s be serious, Hayward plays way more good games than poor, especially the last 2-3 years. He plays in a spot where delivery is poor, not saying he is perfect and he doesn’t really get put on the ball or back much if he is struggling, but really he is accurate shot for goal, takes a contested mark and is good most weeks

Absolutely. It's not the size of our Willy but what he brings into the game that counts.

One or two knockers on here want to praise this game as an exception but remain ready to tear strips off him for any less than outstanding effort.

The fact is Hayward remains one of our more consistent performers who generally finds a way to make a strong contribution.

He is the type who will kick 5-6 goals against us .

I think we will notice him going , not saying he deserved the big long term deal, but massively underrated by some

Nope moving him on is 1000% the right call.

his best stretch was when he was ooc in 2024. Went back to being a mediocre free game gifted player pretty much straight after

Oh and also when he got dropped in 2022 he pulled his head in

Sorry but hes had it too easy here and hes too comfortable

Out he goes

Yes he might be better at carlton because of the wake up call but not with ys

2nd on our goalkicking list the last 2 years, for a team that desperately struggled to score for long periods this year, I'm not happy to give that away as it reduces the impact of getting Curnow in the first place. Unless we're really banking on Amartey and McDonald to step up significantly next year.

As i scroll down from over a year ago im reminded the Autopsy threads during our run of how good Hayward was

Almost all of the board wanted him out of the side at some point and its not like his output has really changed that much

I dont care if he pressures or whatever

Cant see him hes not contributing

Like for brisbane cal ah chee is everywhere and i think hayward is the better player but worse application in game

Will & Ollie is a huge loss and a massive reshaping of our list, IMO. I'm glad they're going to stay together. If Carlton knock this offer back, we can't offer more and then it's gonna be awkward. Presumably we're pretty confident.

Ah Chee leaves nothing out on the field. Hayward and Campbell are both more talented imo but Ah Chee wants it more. They need to aspire to his level of intensity.

In 2022 he was my tip for the Norm Smith. He just had moment player written on him. Kicked like 7 in the U17s as well or something.

Absolute team player who was reliably kicking goals. I remember the game he pantsed Taylor so bad GWS had no rebound and before the song, Horse singled him out for that job.

I'm really sad to see him go but I think he was a victim of being close friends with Florent and those two being very much Horse guys.

I hope he plays well
