Will Hayward
Spritely Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward enjoyed a rocketing start to his career as he became the 11th-youngest player in the AFL era to reach 50 career goals in 2018. The 2016 draftee’s nippy pace and cunning goal awareness have made him a dangerous option in coach John Longmire’s forward line. A broken jaw and a persistent hip injury limited Hayward to just 12 goals in 13 senior games in 2019, but the South Australian is attacking the 2020 campaign on the back of his first full pre-season. Don’t be surprised if the exciting Swan finds himself on a wing this year.

Will Hayward
DOB: 26 October 1998
DEBUT: 2017
DRAFT: #21, 2016 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Walkerville (SA)/North Adelaide (SANFL)

you moan constantly he is inconsistent , so what do you want from him? If you can't articulate it then stop moaning

Sorry can't find the post where you said what you expect from him.

Eg 15 possies a game, 2 goals a week , etc etc

I'll search for it

I would have thought old heads would appreciate someone like Hayward.

I see him as a bit of an old fashioned footballer. Gets a lot done before you even notice and if he’s not scoring he tries to stay in the game in other ways.

Big fan of him!

Medium sized forwards are always whipping boys unfortunately (not just in our side). Can't think of many in the league I would pick ahead of him though. Generally works hard both ways and has become a pretty reliable set shot despite the unfair nickname some have given him.

People ask for consistency but last year the only other non key forwards with 40 plus goals are
Stengle, Greene, Cameron and Fritsch.

What does he actually have to do to be acknowledged as one of our best contributors to scoring?
It's such a difficult role to be consistent in. Probably the hardest position on the ground to play effectively. You could have a ripping game one week, and do everything right the next only to not get a touch. The medium/small high half forward role is a football graveyard. Wicks almost got put into the pit too despite still doing what i think was a good job there.

Most of the other mediums around don't contribute as much defensively. Stengle and Cameron are smalls. Greene is a star. Fritsch is a goal sneak but nothing else. I quite like Langford from Essendon who plays taller than he is and started as a winger. The Lions guys are a weird combination of positions and types and roles. Probably the closest is Rayner but he goes in bursts.
Hayward in form is a very strong contributor indeed on both sides of the ball.
