Yeah in terms of the positivity now the heats gone out of it I only want two changes max and to keep things up internally because we're doing some things well (not enough, IMO, but some still).

Daicos is non-negotiable because he will be a positive focus point regardless of the result, IMO. Then it comes down to fitness between Elliott and Varcoe. I'm still on the Varcoe bandwagon, but losing him was a serious blow because otherwise Blair is out v Richmond so he isn't a guaranteed in.

With that in mind I would keep the focus on what we've done well the past fortnight and emphasise that the Swans are banged up ATM and week between the arcs. We're dominating uncontested ball which is the best indicator of a win in Autumn. The wheel will turn if the coaching group gets the players believing so cool heads hopefully prevail at selection with no knee jerk reactions.

Really getting away from WHE, but I'd love to see Steele forward this week and WHE on the wing because of his ability to break a game open with pace.
Not much I can add but the sooner our midfield can afford the luxury Sidey forward the more potent we will be.
That said - I need to stop. Doodles98 the positivity Prefect may pull me up again.

WHE just needs a good season at it, no interruption no injury.
May be, nah, will be s difference maker.

Add him and wells passing to Elliot

Gees we need some extra a grade value

Maybe three tall forwards was never our aim, we planned on having Elliott in there with Fas and White/Moore as the two talls. Elliott's injury lingered and Cox was picked on a dry night as the next best set-up.
If it wasn't our aim why did we not select Mayne going into round 1? Given the clubs track record at the selection table (remember QB last year...) I'm comfortable with the assumption they thought it was going to be the way forward and quickly realised it was no good.

I'm glad they came to the conclusion as quickly as they did, but I can't help wondering what we expected given we all know Cox is glacial going from offense to defense. Unfortunately as soon as they went with it they were in a lose lose situation for me.

Not much I can add but the sooner our midfield can afford the luxury Sidey forward the more potent we will be.

In general I lean towards Doodles POV because the first two weeks is simply a continuation of last years tripe, but that said I think most would acknowledge that it's in the best interests of everyone for the club to turn this mediocrity around. The best way to do it is focus on what we're doing well and how that can get us the W v Sydney.

Back to Hoskin Elliott, this guy is a super star in the making, can't believe some of the negative nonsense that some were posting when we got him
Not worth a second round pick.......we got bent over by GWS.............Gubby has NFI.................is that how it goes on Bigfooty?

P.S Not directed at you.

I'll weigh in on this one. There's no way that was his value at the time of the trade period given the going rate for the likes of Cloke, Williams, Lewis, Mitchell, Pickett, Ahern, Marchbank and Nankervis. The premium was on talent unlike anyone else through that period.

Look at Witts we invested 8 years into him and only lost him because Grundy is a jet yet his value was circa 20 selections less? Not for me!

We paid overs for him at the time and are just lucky his body has come good to justify it (not completely sold on his application yet).

No he wasn't I just posted about 10 reasons why. You trade to the market and that's not what we did with WHE. I was completely behind his recruitment it was just the wrong price. Treating his acquisition as some sort of recruiting coup doesn't was with me.

Edit: I'm struggling with the wording of this post so to finish with.

The guys in our FD are meant to be experts and on serious coin for their skills in building a list and negotiation so do you think in the same position you couldn't have got the same deal done as a minimum? Seriously TD could have walked in on day one of trade period and got that deal done yet it took the powers that be until the last 15 minute...

I just think we need to get match winners in, and even if we paid slightly overs the reward could be great and with the risk, I'm sick of us having ploders like blair and pretty much all the players gone from last year. Anyone that plays for collingwood I love but I'm over ploders

You know I rate your opinion Scodog but my anger at our players "tripe" as you put it hasn't dissipated since the Tigers game.

If you still haven't watched the game against the Dogs (as you stated) then you have no right to call it tripe like last year.

If anyone can explain to me how goal kicking is Buckley's fault then I am all ears.

By the way.........if WHE plays every game this year then he was worth a first round pick and we got a bargain IMO.

agree we paid overs for WHE and then got unders for Williams, Witts, Cloke.

all this done by a footy dept being run by the legend Gubby....who also did the deals on mayne and wells.

WHE is a pick 4 who we paid a future second round pick for. Bargain based of his form in the first two games of the season.
Not sure about Williams and Witts...I reckon they were also fair trades.

The Mayne signing is all his doing though. That will be Gubbys main legacy. Maynes been reasonable in his first two games, we just need a bit o improvement and then him to maintain that for form for the next 86 BLOODY GAMES...........PLUS FINALS

Thank God that Gubby is a drug cheat though. Without that suspension we''d be stuck with him.

I know you have some sort of connection to Gubby and are a staunch defender of his, but I can't buy in to this reasoning. Yeah, it will be a pleasant surprise, and a positive if a WHE maintains form and fitness, but you buy at market price, and in November last year WHE was a talented, yet inconsistent and constantly injured player, who had barely played any football for 12 months and had 1 good year in his 5 year career. He wasn't worth what we paid for him relative to other trades during the trade period of 2016, particularly when GWS were giving away top 10 picks from only 2 years before for nix.

All I will say is Mathews (GWS) and the AFL are the reason we seemingly paid overs for WHE last year.

They are also the reason Gubby was suspended.

Believe it or not Apex36.

Feel free to explain it to me, in a PM if necessary.

Glad you can at least admit (albeit in a roundabout way with the 'seemingly' bit) that we paid over market value for WHE.

I'm not privy to who made those decisions Dave, but if they were all driven by Gubby I can't say I unhappy to see the back of him. From what I've seen and heard though we havent seen the last of him.
