Cal Brown is surplus to our ball huntjng needs, I’d give him Sidebottom’s wing and give Sidebottom Cal Browns role with slightly more midfield time.
You're probably right re. Cal. I just like the cut of his jib.

In terms of WHE or any other ins that may change the balance, for me it comes down to the balance you want in your 18 plus a bench that can rotate through and maintain or adjust the balance if necessary. I see WHE as a strong marking outside receiver, with limited inside game. I wouldn't automatically just bring him in for our least performed player. The decision would be about getting the balance right. At the moment I think our balance is a ground ball hunter short in defence - a marking target short in the midfield and spot on up forward.

I think with someone like the hyphen, we'd play him when he's ready. He's a gun wing and lead up forward that will free up JDG to create more midfield damage. I'd have WHE in our top 10... easily. I support the notion that you take the field with your best available e.g. West coast always plays tall, team balance doesn't come into it.

He added to our already dangerous forward line would cause opposition coaches palpitations.

I'd argue that WCE have a game that is built around their tall team, so for them tall is balanced.

I'd play WHE. I rate him highly -probably not top 10 for me - but highly enough to have him as an automatic. It's just that for me the question of who I'd leave out isn't as clear cut as the least productive of our forwards, who are both crumbers, as I wouldn't want his inclusion to weaken us at the fall of the ball.

That's a good consideration.

The hyphen plays wing & forward so he threatens Mayne and even Varcoe just as much as he threatens Callum, & Thomas. The upside to his inclusion is that we have another versatile player that can be moved up or downfield depending on needs/matchups.

How deep do we bat? *knock-on-wood*

* EDIT - We can play small just as WC play tall. It worked last year; play to our strengths.

He is only about 6 foot but to me always seems taller and plays taller.
Pretty syre he's taller than that, but could not be bothered looking it up. Regardless of height, he launches at the footy, has sticky fingers and leads fast, so he's really dangerous in the air.

Wish he had more match fitness. Can go missing and surely his lack of actual match fitness won’t help. Having said that, sometimes the first game back can be good before a lull.
WHE will at least demand some respect and attention from Essendon even if underdone. He'll keep them honest.
