Juddy gives the impression he's not enjoying his footy. I think giving up the captaincy is a good thing - maybe he'll feel less pressure, and get on with playing the game. To me he seems frustrated by the team's performance, his own body and the constant tagging and scragging he gets. He gives off a vibe that he's over it.

That said, he's kind of always given off that vibe, and been an absolute all-timer, so who knows. It would sure entrench and secure his greatness were he to be a big part of #17 for the Blues, but I'm not sure the world will give me that much awesomeness in one go.

Can't recall another Carlton player who had as much impact when he retired as Judd will.(maybe Bradley or SOS)...it's one of those real sad moments in footy almost unbelievable....having said that let's hope he keeps going for our sake....there aren't too many game breakers around and we have the best.....

Not sure why you think that. It's the opposite according to several player interviews.

Just my uninformed outsider view. I'm sure he is (always has). You can't be that good and dedicated to it without loving it.

But because he carries himself as a cool professional rather than a passionate heart on sleeve clubman, when things aren't going well he looks a bit "over it".

Who knows what thoughts are swimming around inside that ever furrowed brow...

It would be nice to think we could get another two years beyond this year at a reasonable rate. There is enough talk about Collingwood/Hawthorn/Geelong players willing to take unders in the pursuit of premiership glory to make me think there just might be something in it...would be nice to think our players had similar sentiments. The impression I get is that all of our top liners are paid full market rates, possibly a deal more in some cases.

Think its clear enough to see he doesn't live and breathe the game like some, but I do get the impression that he cares about his legacy...which speaking plainly took a bit of a beating this year. Capping a career by ending a premiership drought at the proudest of clubs and earning his place amongst Carlton immortals in the process...I reckon there's something in that.

I have no idea honestly, but I am thankful for all he has done for us.

People like to dream about plenty of finals and flags, but it aint easy and Judd alone can't be expected to bring that. It's important to remember what Juddy helped bring us from and his overall impact. Worth every cent.

Has he played 100 for us yet?

Oscar??

Am I the only one thinking he might not want to sign a new contract so he can go elsewhere for more money and retire from footy with as much cash in the bank as possible?

Or am I just being super paranoid?

when he does, I'll cry

Same here. It will break my heart when Judd retires. I'm hoping that under Mick's game-plan that we can do what someone else mentioned, and play Judd mostly in the forward line while Murphy, Gibbs, Bell, Simpson, Carrazzo, Cachia, Scotland, etc play most of the midfield minutes. We can then swing Judd into the middle every now and then, but playing him in the forward line (along with the relinquished captaincy) should hopefully take a lot of physical and mental pressure off him, which hopefully will keep his body fresher and his mind happier and that way he can go on another 3 years or so.

How quickly we forget.
In 2011 he was among the top 5 or so players in the comp.
There has only been a season since.
One poor season from him (and still good in general football standards) and we write him off.
I, for one, hope I get the enjoyment of seeing him for at least another two to three years.
If Carlton are top 4 this year I think there is a good likelihood that he'll play on.
Make it happen.

Think it will depend on how the team goes this year. I know he was troubled by injury last year but also believe the game vs North had an impact. His effort in trying to drag us back into that absolutely pivotal match was superhuman and gutsy beyond belief. Yet his team mates rolled over and submitted like puppies. Must have broken the great man's heart.

Then he suffered shameless, shameful and relentless vilification over the chicken wing affair that must have been shattering, I doubt if he feels the same way about life as a superstar footballer as he did before that.
