I know that this is looking a bit far ahead but do you think that Matthew LLyod will end up kicking more goals than Plugger Lockett? I always thought that Lloyd was a great player (at times a little inconsistent but when on song absolutely awesome!!!) and I hope he does break the record (no offence plugger). Is there a stats buff out there who could give us an update on Lloyd's goals compared to where plugger was at the same stage of his career?

There was an article in last years Age that gave Lockett's year by year progress. I'm not sure but I think at the same stage he had a few more goals.

Lockett had 465 after 112 games at 4.15
Lloyd has 327 after 99 at 3.30.

He'd need another 1030 goals and would have to score tham at better than 5 a game even if he plays 300 games, so I'd say he probably wont get there.

im not saying lloyd will or wont beat plugger
one thing to remeber is lloyd started as a 16-17 year old, similar to plugger but lloyd played a lot of his early footy on a half forward flank
maybe more practical to compare lloys stats of the last 2-3 years when he has settled at fullforward
also plugger played in a one sometimes two man forward line
lloyd plays in a forward line with lucas hird bewick mercuri alessio and up to 6 or so others
for lloyd to kick 100 goals in that forward line is an awesome effort
beating pluggers record would almost be impossible in the current game i think but he could get really really close

If Sheedy Would leave him at full forward / CHF for a whole game instead of sending him to the wing for a quarter he might have had a chance, but too much water under the bridge now, and i think plugger had won a coleman medal or 2 by this stage of his career.

Very, very little chance. Plugger was quite amazing. Lloyd is unlikely to get up as far as Bunghole (Dunstall for the uninformed)... jeez Essendon hasn't had a FF kick the Ton since 1972 so for him to do it 5 or 6 times and in a team that shares the goals around like Essendon.... very, very unlikely... also, as good as he is - he's no plugger yet...

(like that objectivity folks?)

While he may one day if LOTS of luck goes his way do it I dont really think so. Firstly all footballers go through injurys at some stage. Also there may be form slumps, games where he may get hurt early etc etc.
In his favour are the better conditions of the grounds, a rood enclosed home stadium and playing in a very good side.
1000 I think he may get to, Plugger? I just dont think so.

Of course he will. Lloyd already is a better player than Lockett was, cause he's played in a premiership. Plus he is better looking. Lockett is so ugly!

Alrite lets look at this carefully.
LLOYD is 19 years old.
he has kicked about 415 Goals, and will get about 470 at the end of the season.
He will probably play till he's 32, because he hasnt got a good build, unlike Bradley!

So for him to kick the 1358 goals in 12 years which will be 888 goals in 12 years.
Lloyd will probably average 22 games a year, so 22 times 12 is 264 games to kick 888 goals.
Thats an average of 3.36363636363636363636363 Goals per game.
I reckon the lad can do it!

Lloyd 19??? Im pretty sure he's not 19 years old is he?

And your stats are all ifs and buts, next week he may go down with a knee recon (touch wood) and might never recover. You seem to think its a given that he'll play until he is 32 and that he will play every game every week, highly unlikely.

He is actually 23. Started as a 17 year old.

Injury has treated Lloyd quite well (touch wood). He has improved as each year has gone by. It is incredibly strong and takes quite a few marks infront of his eyes when going full tilt.

Extremely smart football with great skills above his head and at ground level. His handpass to Ramanauskas was a highlight...running helter skelter...picks the ball off the deck...lightning quick hands! :)

You didnt need to convince us that he is a good footballer. He is an awesome full forward but i just dont see him getting to Pluggers total. Oh and thanks for clearing his age up i knew he was older than 19.

Nah...he wont catch Plugger. Not whilst Sheedy is still coach. Lloyd is far too versatile to keep him at full-forward for his whole career. I believe that Lloyd will eventually play at CHF as he gains in experience. Sheeds has probably kept him away from CHF in order to prolong his career.

It'll be interesting to see what Sheeds and his eventual predecessor, will do with Lloyd when he reaches his peak.
