Is Lonie finished at Collingwood? He seems to be out of favor with coaching staff and supporters at this stage. If we offer him for trade at the end of the season I think he will be snapped up quickly, he seems to have lost confidence in himself and unless he kills them at Willy I don't think we will see him again.

I think that he will be trade bait at the end of season, but only in a lure for a good player. He has the skills, and a golden left boot. Is a mature footballer and experienced. The only thing was he was getting it too easy, and never got dropped, and i think he will benefit from his recent omittion, clearly because he is now a more disciplined and will play for his spot more than he ever will, but that is only if he can "force" his way back into the side, and not be just chucked back. He has to perform.

If he has fallen out as badly as some say, we will no doubt let him rot at Williamstownfor the year before delisting him. He will then be nabbed by another club for nix in either the National Draft or PSD. This will then bite us on the arse for the next 8 years and give us more ammunition to bitch and moan.

On the other side of town, Sheedy will be trading Aaron Henneman to Fremantle for pick 5.

Lonie won't be trade bait. You have to be good to be trade bait.

He has top quality skills, but as labrooy mentioned, lacks desire. I think he would be usefull in a trade, but only trade him if we actually get something in return.

Well, all I want from Lonie, is for him to force hsi way back into the side...he is gret when on game, and if he lacks the skills at VFL level and gets in because he is an experienced senior player, then that'll pi$$ me off.

He is one of the great disappointments. He was brilliant in his debut year and was one of the best in the 2002 GF.

Players are aware that he isn't that tough in the contest.

I know he has been effected by a personal tragedy, but unfortunately the game of footy stops for no man.

He'll get back in, however, when he returns lets hope he is played as an attacking HBF or winger, not as a third defensive tall where, for some unknown reason, he has been playing for the last year and a half.

Mid-to-late 2004, he played a couple of games at Half Forward, and kicked a couple goals, and looked suited in that position, despite lacking the penetration and run from half back.

Maybe he could be used in that position if he continues a run of bad form on the defensive 50.

Yes. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't - whether for self-respect, trade/ get out of the joint prospects, or for us to see an attacking wing/half forward (now that with Maxy in there he doesn't have to take the third tall player in defence), or for the fact that MM has used him out of position for these several years only to spit him out now for not being what he never was (see Scotland, H; Betheras, R; et al). Also see "Attacking player" - oops that isn't in MM's thesaurus.

yes he will...just needs to go back to Willy, pull his finger out and also get some confidence back in himself to run the lines and kick those big 60m goals that were a trade mark early in his career

Does Lonie like playing in the backline? Or does he prefer the forward line better? Maybe he should tell MM he wants to play in the forward line

Maybe he should knuckle down and work harder.

I dont see why he has been dropped in the first place. His left foot is as deadly as any left footer in the comp. He can kick a mile. You can play him in the middle and in the backlione and in the forward line.
If he does get traded at the end of the season collingwood had better get a good player for him.. not another one of those dud trades...

if collingwood are to progress in the next few years, lonie is the sort of player we should be persisting with.
good mark, raking left foot, decent enough speed and versatility.
it has been mentioned that lonie would be better suited to an attacking position. whether that is on the wing or on a half forward flank remains to be seen. however, he is NOT suited to a defensive post as a third tall option. that seems to be clear to everyone except MM and the match committee.
lonie has shown that he can play at this level. has time on his side and with a little faith and persisitence could be a very good player for the club.
you know.....the sort of persistence were're showing with williams, o'bree and co.
