Will Marc Murphy be dethroned?

Marc Murphy is often considered the best player in the Carlton squad, but there was genuine doubt during the captaincy campaign whether he had what it took to be an AFL captain. With the season almost finished how do we mark his first season as captain?

Dethroning a captain is not without precedent, we only need to look to Hawthorn, who have a strong winning culture. Over time they realised that Hodge was the spiritual captain of the side and was the best man to lead them when the going gets tough.

Going into season 2014 does Murphy deserve another shot, or should he be replaced by another more suited to the role? If so who and why?

Calling for radical change in leadership is shortsighted and reactionary. Do you remember the Hawks game? I do. I saw a player who was unflinching in his pursuit of the ball. That "hard-man" Hodge (Hawthorn's captain and spiritual leader - why is there no vomit emoticon?) flinched and played the man and broke our skipper's jaw.

Murphy hasn't been the same since. But he's young and arguably the best player on the list. Look how long it took Simmo to get back to full fitness, form and confidence. I like a leader who leads by example and if all our players had this ferocious attack on the ball we'd be in a better position than currently.

No it is not going to happen and he is in his first year as Captain and still very young.

Not even worthy of discussion no matter how much you sugar coat it. If you want to gripe about last nights game use the autopsy thread and rant away but we are not going to have 10+ knee jerk reactionary threads on players after a loss.
