You may be the greatest team of all Geelong, shame your fans cannot be just as classy.

So OP, you are alleging Geelong tanked friday night so they would get the chance to play the toughest team in the league. or did they do it because they expected Essendon to win? :drunk:

To win the flag you have to win 3 games in a row against the best teams in the competition, the equation for us to win the flag is still the same as it was this time last week, but the pre finals bye has essentially fixed something that wasn't broken, so you're better off losing the qualifying final.
No, you're really not. Please go back and check the history under this finals system. Please, for the sake on sanity.

Like I said you have to win 3 games in a row against the best teams in the competition in order to win the flag so I've never said anything about our opposition, as it's irrelevant.

The record of qualifying final winners under the current finals system prior to the bye being brought in was 24-4 and I already outlined that in the OP.

Do you think it's just a coincidence that both qualifying final winners happened to lose their preliminary finals last year, in the first season which happened to have the pre finals bye in place?

no one can win a final after playing only 1 game of footy in 26 days.
So full of shit. I've seen plenty of teams win not only finals, but grand finals after having a bye, final, bye and then grand final and win the bloody premiership. Some went further than 1 game in 26 days when they arrived at the G for grand final day.
Get a reality check.
1979 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1981 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1985 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1987 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1988 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1989 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!

Is this the week Geelong fans that cannot handle their shit finals record of recent times break all types of sooking records in various types of ways ?

Have a split round during the season similar to the one they had in 2014..
There is a reason they moved it in the first place. No one liked it then. Nothing will have changed. Doing it this way at least keeps the supporters of 10 teams happy, and it gives the players of teams in the finals a rest before the most important month in footy. Makes sense, and now they can use rubbish footy related filler on that weekend, like Womens origin.

We need a bigger sample size before drawing any conclusions.

How on Earth does that prove anything? The footy landscape was completely different back in those days.

Also, you'll find that I haven't sooked at all, in fact you'll find that I'm actually very content with the position that my club is in.

How come the bye last year had the opposite effect on Geelong and GWS? Geelong were spanked early, whilst GWS were overun late?
Geelong and GWS were both jumped early as they were lacking match fitness, the difference is that the Bulldogs failed to blow GWS away on the scoreboard in the first quarter.

Also you'll find that both Geelong and GWS struggled to run out the game due to lacking match fitness.

God, I hope the AFL get rid of the bye before finals start. I want to see finals, not bloody wait and even worse it causes completely clueless clowns to come up with stupid openings to threads like this too.

So you do not believe Sydney and the Bulldogs were the best two teams last season?

Bulldogs beat West Coast (away) Hawthorn and GWS (away) just to make the grand final. That makes a pretty good team to me.

Sydney lost to GWS then had to do it the hard way beating the Crows and then coming to the MCG to beat your mob.

Or are you saying that Geelong was the best team last season, you got robbed and deliberately got flogged Friday night making you now a lock to roll Sydney this week and the Crows the week after? Good one......

Yeah can really see a team going 21-1 in a season, smashing their opposition in the first final then losing the prelim cause they had too much rest. Do you seriously think the Bombers would have lost 2000 had they had the bye week? Or would the Cats have not even made the grand final in 2011 even?

You're the one that thinks footy from the 80s is somehow comparable to footy today.
Actually I am one of many that know the last time we had finals series where teams could go as long as 26 days or more between playing games was in 1980's. If they had kept doing it in recent decades there is absolutely no reason to think team would all of a sudden stop being able to win with same lead into their next final. You simply lack all of awareness, basic research skills and clear thinking.
It is only last year where the scenario could happen again and you come to the laughable faulty conclusion that no one, repeat, no one, can win a final after having just 1 game in 26 days. Honestly, just really lacking in sample size awareness to say such a dumb thing in your opening post.
