Like I said you have to win 3 games in a row against the best teams in the competition in order to win the flag so I've never said anything about our opposition, as it's irrelevant.

The record of qualifying final winners under the current finals system prior to the bye being brought in was 24-4 and I already outlined that in the OP.

Do you think it's just a coincidence that both qualifying final winners happened to lose their preliminary finals last year, in the first season which happened to have the pre finals bye in place?
Yes I do.

We'll see how Adelaide and Richmond go next week, and over the next few years or so whether the ledger balances back out to favour the qualifying final winners in the preliminary finals.
How is it possible that you have won more flags then the Swans this century but are Sydneys bitch? :p

Hawks have won more, and Sydney are their bitches....isnt that how it should work?:D

Geelong never played Sydney in a GF. Only finals have been 05 and 16. Both Sydney victories.

They certainly have the wood over us in finals, 4-0 their way, but I expect that to change on Friday night :D

If we are going to have 2 bye weeks then I prefer the pre finals bye.

It's crap at the time but it's a swift dose of medicine followed by the finals series, and I don't buy that it has any major impact on the finals being fair or otherwise. It should only make the games better.

If we add the 2nd bye in during the season then we get:

- Teams having their first buy a lot earlier, potentially week 6/7.
- Double the disjointed match ups where one team is playing on a short break and tired at the end of the game and another is playing from a bye and can be flat
- Possibly 6 or more weeks without a full compliment of games
- Double the fantasy football chaos - which really is a problem for me hearing about it rather than the actual people playing
- The return of teams tanking the final round of the year (which I don't really care about but the media coverage sure drags on)

no one can win a final after playing only 1 game of footy in 26 days.
So full of shit. I've seen plenty of teams win not only finals, but grand finals after having a bye, final, bye and then grand final and win the bloody premiership. Some went further than 1 game in 26 days when they arrived at the G for grand final day.
Get a reality check.
1979 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1981 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1985 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1987 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1988 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!
1989 premiers show you are WRONG!!!!

Is this the week Geelong fans that cannot handle their shit finals record of recent times break all types of sooking records in various types of ways ?
Reality I suspect hit hard for this Cat fan.
Hopefully it is also the end of the dopey nonsense of other posters last year sprouting it is an advantage to finish 5th to 8th and not top 4.

Oh God, I hope so. I've been listening to this twaddle in the media for a year about all the so-called advantages team from 5-8 have because of the bye. Last year was an exception to the norm, to have a team finish 7th and play the type of footy they did throughout the finals. You won't see that very often. Even Sydney with their impressive 15-2 record were found wanting. As you say, hopefully it puts that argument to bed.

Also correct me if Im wrong last years top 8 were so close and at times only percentage separated them so even though the Bulldogs finished 7th in the home & away there wasn't much between the teams on any given day. The Bulldogs probably finished lower than what they should have due to injuries and were lucky they got these injured players back at finals time.

Looks like the bye has been a huge disadvantage to both Adelaide and the Tigers. Time for new excuses?
Cats were not good enough last season.

And the Giants were a kick away from winning, with their skipper off the ground with concussion for half the game.

It's a bunk narrative now officially debunked.

This is now a confirmed non-issue.

Probably won't stop those who have a genetic disposition to whinge about anything and everything from having another go in the future, but there's nothing any of the rest of us can do about those types.

Look at what he said everyone. Over a week before the prelims!

You nufties said the same thing to me in my Caddy thread on the polls board. Said I had egg on my face because he kicked 4-5 or didn't play liker a VFL player in the QF. I mean are you all for real! Of course Caddy needs to get better! You think he' now worth his pick do you? LOL. How can 1st round pick and have less good games and more bad games than Menegola and not need to get better. Seriously!

4 teams have made the gf with the pte finals bye.

1. Adelaide - won QF and into granny. Finished top.
2. Richmond - won QF and into granny. Finished third.
3. Sydney - lost QF but won prelim. Finished top.
4. Western bulldogs - finished 7th and got to the GF.

This entire bye debate is on the back of what the bulldogs did last year.

FFS ...... are people serious?

Yeah................. it's stupid

The way some were talking, it's like it was the end of the Finals Universe as we know it just because the Dogs defied gravity to win it from 7th last year.

The Dogs won the Premiership because of one factor.... they were the best side in September.

That's the way it's always been and all power to the Dogs. They were fabulous and deserved it!

Hopefully, the results of the Finals this year have laid to rest the stupid myth that the Top 4 and specifically the two QF winners have been somehow suffered dire consequences because of the last round bye..

Both Adelaide and Richmomd started fast and looked to have more petrol tickets when the heat went on later in their respective PF's,

All that wailing and gnashing of teeth about playing "one game 4 weeks" has suddenly stopped
