Will the Best Footballers be selected for Qld U18's

Country does without a doupt produce some great sportsmen..........can also say that some of the delisted boys that Ive heard about are still among the top 30 in there age group, if we are talking about 17 and 19 year olds in the squads. Some of the GC boys you are referring to would be in the few for sure. Will be interesting to see the 2 GC talls again and if they have improved in there footy journey and recovered fully from injuries.........as for the top end cairns lads I hope they perform, for AFLQ sake. AS the thread says from past history, Will the best footballers be selected for Qld U18s. We will soon find out if they do as they normally do, and think only of 1 or 2 players for draft, or pick a team to win, and give more an opportunity to be drafted[/QUOTE]

That old chestnut again Brisvegas!:) Can't say i believe that the 2 go hand in hand in Qld. We will struggle to beat any of the southern states with our best 22 no matter what. Bottom line is that Vic/SA/WA could field 3 sides that would beat Qld's most years - the depth of player talent is obviously enormous, ours not so. Just bc our kids represent Qld doesn't put them in the best 80 kids in the country or even in the best 280. Saying that this year there is some very good players around in the Lions Academy that i know of anyway and hope like hell they get picked up!

2012 - there is a young fella that has moved from Townsville this year that made AA schoolboys last year, Ryan Agita - heard how he has settled in to city life and footy down your way?

Does anyone know if the game on Sunday is still going ahead or is it also a casualty of a soggy ground!!

At this stage still on. AFLQ will be very keen to ensure goes ahead as country boys will have come down specifically to play sunday. So if yeronga ground too wet suspect will try hard to find another ground - Coorparoo ground ok and aflbj games there sun cancelled so likely backup option. If planning to go keep an eye on websites in case of late location change

Anyone have details of yesterday's game?
Have been told the Brisbane squad ended up winning comfortably?
Brisbane Lions Academy facebook post
"Good win by u18 boys 15.8.98 def. Suns 6.2.32 in warm conditions at AFLQ HQ in Yeronga. Plenty of good signs and some things we can work on"

Recruiters impressed with many from the Lions squad..........nothing from the GCoast after the 1st game. maybe they should prop up the GC side with those that got droped from the Lions academy so they can put up a decent fight

Lions clearly stronger team (even without Cameron, Burke, Tickner - and starcevich (if he's still in the mix for selection??)).Not sure who's playing for them tomorrow - were some fringe players still training with squad even this week who didn't play first game still presumably were being considered for game tomorrow - not sure if they would come in for some who have done enough already to make state side (and let them play club) or bottom few from first game. GCoast team will presumably be same as last week. Thought Boston was good last week for them.

Squad to be named today. Not sure how many to be named initially this year - 2 years ago about 35 from memory, last year smaller initial squad of 25 with others added as required - guess we will see later today

Gribble, Rutledge and Conway 17's. Who else? All 3 Sandgate youngsters, plus Overington. Good for a non State League club to keep developing good kids.

Very, very good footballer too. Without professing to know too much of approx 3/4 of this squad, what are peoples opinions? Also - can anyone shed light on how many of these boys were in the 16's Scorpions 2 years ago?

I think Aspley match committee made a grave error of judgement yesterday by playing Aliir Aliir in his fisrt NEAFL senior game, wet conditions for his first game saw him overwelmed with a visit to the hospital for a facial injury (an accident incident) - I am not saying he is not up to the level, but on a day like that it is horses for courses and a small crumbing type player should have been used to save the big fella for a dry day to show off his rucking and marking ability. Miserable day with a miserable result for Aspley and young Aliir.

Hope Aliir not to badly hurt and can be back playing soon? Several of squad have injuries at present- overington, Cameron, Wagner, ? Couple of others - and Bain, hall and smith just coming back from time off - playing seniors good experience but can take toll on 17 and 18 year olds if playing regularly - with first game against TAC cup team in 10 days will they be free to play again this weekend or told to have a week off? Maybe should be concentrating on state under 18's for next couple months - lots of time to play seniors after that. I'm sure clubs want them now -eg Boston doing v well - but for them personally need to be in best shape can be for state games.....

Looks like free to play this weekend - from NEAFL lists seems 9 boys from squad playing seniors this weekend with only one being a top up player (and couple of others would have if not injured). Hopefully this experience will help performances at state level over next couple of months

Rutledge and Gribble have played seniors every week at Sandgate. Rutledge been in best last two weeks. Obviously not NEAFL but getting senior experience will hold them in good stead.

daniel brown has been added to the squad. been aspleys best 2s players this year and might be leading the league medal
Will probably play this weekend as well. Several injuries in current squad of 30 and wouldn't want to risk any of them in first practice game. Would expect team to be on website tomorrow for 1030 am game sat at yeronga prior to lions / swans reserves.

Interesting to see how the Qld boys go in their first game together against TAC cup team who have been playing together for a while. Also Potential no 1 draft pick Whitfield plays for opponents Dandenong - hope he plays - would be great to see him play live.

10 from my count including Allir who played in the Pacific Side. Once again a selected side formed around 1 or 2 players for draft selection. That U16 side would have given it a good crack this year but unfortunately a few hard nut quality players that have a strong personality, and a different view on the system have been dropped. Will again be interesting to see if Brownings influence on the side has developed more seagulls.
