All the junior McGovern talk tells me we aren’t in with a real chance with Lynch.
Essentially have to trade for both and we are after a gun mid as well, we can’t expect more than two inclusions imo.
No one is trading for Lynch.

He’s a FA that will allow the AFL to give the Suns the best compo anyone has ever seen.

Price tag doesn’t do it for me. The only key forward worth $1M plus is Franklin - and Lynch isn’t remotely as versatile.
Don’t get sucked in by the “price tag”, it’s not going to be what he media are running with.

You will remember that Frawley had a huge price tag too, that Hawthorn were not going to accept midway through 2014 according to the media. It was rubbish.

I would rather we go hard for a package of Mitch McGoveen and Sam Weideman rather than just go for Lynch.

MM + SW would be the perfect young key forwards for our rebuild.

Would be exactly how we rejuvenated our midfield with the recruitment of Jaeger and Tom but for our forward line.

Agreed however we would have to trade for both these players.

The great lure of Lynch is not having to give anything up for him. The ability to land Lynch and not give up our first rounder, particularly in this draft, can't be understated.

Yeah that's the problem, Adelaide and Melbourne would demand 1st rounders for both those contracted players.

Oh look if we convinced Lynch to come on board at say $800-$900,000 a season - in the era of the current cap I’d be happy as a Robbo at a wine tasting. If he comes at a price higher than that I’ll be more speculative.

Yeah he isn't really worth more than 800-850k, it's just we so desperately need a key forward that can clunk marks etc. I think a healthy Lynch is a 60+ goal kicker in this Hawthorn side.

This. Some say we overpaid pick wise for B.B., JOM etc but we just bloody need a new forward. Bit different as this is cap but you have to pay for a marque forward. New world order

A lot of the same people saying we don't need Lynch will be the same people complaining about having TOB in the team and being frustrated over our inability to score.

Keep in mind Lynch is not 100% fit at the moment and is playing in a joke of a team, yet he still looks good. Has a lot of mongrel in him as well which i like.

I do appreciate that, its an important consideration.

IMO the only reason someone should be even remotely averse to grabbing Lynch is the potential financial cost. His standing as a player and his potential worth to us going forward is - again IMO - almost unquestionable.

I do think if he were to come across we'd all be pleasantly surprised by how reasonable his price tag will end up being. But having said that money paid to FAs probably needs to be looked at in isolation at least from the rest of the list. Its potentially a heavily inflated aspect of list management - youd have fork out more to get them across - which I think is more than fair for trade-less list improvement mechanism.

Having said that, 1M is not what it used to be thanks to the CBA and there are whispers Clarko and Co are open to moving with the times.

Hey guys, new member, long time follower.
I'm thinking the Hawks will chase a smaller name, but promising key forward, some have been mentioned here, others maybe not.
Names such as Wiedeman, 2 meter Peter or even Jon Patton. Less money and can still chase a gun mid. Thoughts?
Yea it definitely has merit, but the issue is trading for those guys. None are free agents and all of them are contracted. I think picks are a more valuable asset for us at this point in time and would rather see us hold our picks. Or if we are going to use them it needs to be for ready made stars.

People keep suggesting that we won't pay huge money for players because we haven't in the past but i am not so sure about that. We have used picks to bring in talent while not overpaying so that we could keep a premiership team together and it worked perfectly, we don't have a premiership list at the moment though. I think picks hold more value to us at the moment and would be willing to offer more $ to a free agent.

Good point with having to make trades to get these players, but we have shown in the past we're not afraid to make the necessary trades to fill our needs.

Like we did with a contracted Impey and although Mitchell and O'Meara were out of cobtract we still needed to find suitable trades to make the deal.

I agree with you that holding onto our first round pick this year is essential, but doesn't mean we can't trade next years and perhaps get Weidemen for unders if he nominates us like with Impey.

Better than pick 3 for Frawley?
Yep. There’s whispers that they could get a pick straight after their first PLUS one at the end of the first round.

So if they finish last, they’ll have Pick 1, then get Pick 2 and 19 as compo.

You just know the AFL will look after them as they did Melbourne with Frawley.
