“The Hawks, who are a potential bidder for another major free agent, Adelaide’s Rory Sloane, are believed to be in a position to pursue only one player on that scale of money – $800,000-plus per season – given the contracts for next year and beyond.

While the Hawks have lost club greats Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis and have other veterans on their list, they do not have highly paid senior players on their list coming out of contract this year and while they can create space for one major signing, they are not in the position of North Melbourne, which was able to offer $1 million-plus deals to both Dustin Martin and Giant Josh Kelly last year.”

Fails to mention burgoyne and rioli possibly moving on, with Birchall another name I’ve heard. We all know the cash will be there.

What about Vickerys salary coming off the books?

Getting the feeling Burgoyne will be replaced by Sloane at the end of this year, and we are now plotting and experimenting with our future over these next 4 weeks and beyond, without the great man....Reckon the Sloane deal has already been done too, ( At least as a handshake ), and as usual, 2 of our veterans will be retired by the end of this season. The other being Cyril or a Poppy or a Birchall...

Now for Tom Lynch or Mitch McGovern, to compliment our Sloane pick up...

Has this moron never heard of contract front ending. The HFC has been preparing for this trade period for two years. Please move on. Don’t give this crap credence. Niall is incredulous. If he thinks we have only $800k available he should move to Mars.

Not playing anymore (although he could certainly still lace the boots up and be our 3rd best midfielder) but I heard that the Mitchell-class Clearancebot 1.0 might be heading back to Victoria. Surely we would be all over the little man coming back.
Recently sold his house quite quickly in Cottesloe. As in within 2-3 days

Source: my parents live about 4 doors down

I’d say he’s on the move somewhere

Bushrangers, Kings,
Jaeger said something along the lines of “I would love to play alongside Sloane if the opportunity comes up” on talking footy tonight.
I have also heard Brayshaw a number of times suggest Sloane to Hawks is a perfect fit for both parties which I find really strange!!!

Perhaps the Kangas are going all in for Degoey and will offer the Godfather deal.

I dont think JDG will leave Collingwood, but wouldnt surprise me if Norf go all in and bomb out again

Having said that, I would prefer us to be chasing JDG on 800+ than Sloane on 700+, even if it meant doing a trade.
Proven talent vs draft lottery. Instantly adds to our midfield for the next 10 years.

Six decades of domination
I'm all for Sloane coming in. Mitchell needs support ASAP. JOM might be able to help out next year and Shiels can defenitely cover him defensively but we need someone else to help share the load.

On a similar note I think Patty Cripps desperately needs some midfield support. He will be busted before he's 30 the way he's going. Just carrying the midfield over there.

I think that's the key one to us being able to afford two big name free agents.

Nah. Rioli was not in any plans to move on this year. Hence why he was contracted well passed 2018.

As Topiary has posted, we’ve been looking towards the 2017-2018 draft/trade period for some time, and have made the required moves to do so....this Niall article is one of the poorest he’s written considering how easily he’s overlooked the $$$ that have moved out of the cap in the last 2 seasons(Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Vickery).

Senior Assistant to Richardson at St Kilda is what I've heard. Looking to be a big shake up at Moorabbin at seasons end

I share your sympathetic concerns for Patrick but to get him to Dingley would require a massive hypothetical trade.

If Sam Mitchell comes back to Victoria after only 2 years in WA, after we let him go early and for nothing to help set up his family for the start of his kids schooling in Perth, am I right to be just a little bit pissed?

Free country. But it’s not a free big footy. Feel what the Illuminati tell you to feel.
