Now I'm not sinking the boots in after just one game. I was thinking about this all through summer. There are some certain Essendon players who are on our list that get games that they may not deserve. I would be interested in whether or not you think the following will be playing in round 1.

Kepler- I hope he doesn't play as he really has no strengths. He is slow, unskillful and has the ability to make the easy look incredibly difficult. If he plays on the wing I will cry. We have so many other guys who can play on the wing. It's almost as if Sheedy is too stubborn to drop him.

Peverill- Unfortunately I think he will be playing. He is slow and very unskillful (as he proved on the weekend), however he somehow manages to get a weekly game. There is no point playing him as a ball winning onballer as nothing happens when he gets it and he hasn't had a decent game as a tagger since his rookie year.

Slattery- He may end up being okay however he isn't ready to play right now. He always seems to be rushing and he had one incident against Carlton where it seemed as if he just froze. I don't think we have to play him in defence as Welsh, Mcveigh and lov-murray can take the smalls.

Cole- He does one good thing, the two bad things. We just need some stability in defence and I think he needs to get his confidence up in the VFL before playing senior footy. Also the same as Slats, he isn't really required.

Bolton- I was very pleased that he didn't play on the weekend. Much the same as Kepler, there is no real position for him. I would much prefer some youngsters to get games in front of him. We have to cut our losses and get rid of him just like we did with Henneman.

Heffernan- I don't think he will play many games and I hope it stays that way. Unfortunately for Heff, he is only a shadow of the player he use to be. Falls in the same category as Pevs, the modern game just doesn't suit him.

Players like Kepler, Slattery, Cole could have got some much needed confidence if we had won a few games in the NAB cup. I'm so peeved about our loss as is was so crucial to our development to have a good run.

In time I think they can all be really good players for us.

The modern game cannot sustain a midfield of Watson, JJ, and Pev. As much as I like the bloke Pev has to make way. The only problem is who si going to push him out.

I can see Heff playing a role this season but once again I'm not sure a midfield of Watson, JJ and Heff is the right mix. It all depends on whether our skillful flankers can do the job.

Will be an interesting first 5 weeks of the season. There should be players playing for there careers and lives out there.

Stanton is the 3rd midfielder.

I hope we rush Heff straight in. He doesn't get a stack of it, but when he does he uses it well. He's accountable and he's composed, we need that. Especially around young midfielders.

Actually, Id say Heff and Campo will give much needed poise and delivery which we sorely missed.

Cole also has good skills, and hit some targets on the weekend, however he is horribly underdone. He needs at least a dozen games in the 1's or 2's before a real judgement can be made.

Im still not sure where Bradley fits in either. He will either became a real wildcard/ace up the sleeve, or float in no-mans land. Time will tell.

He was underdone last year. I was expecting a big preseason from him. He really needs to get super fit to prove a few people wrong. I think he lacks commitment

I agree with you. I think Heff's a good strong tagger that can go all day and not give his opponent an inch. Good tackler with good skills.

As long as he gets near it though....

I dont know if I would rate Heff''s foot skills that highly longy.

Definitely better than the likes off JJ, Pev etc but like Watson, he'll pull out some ripper passes and then follow it up with a poor one.

It's not his foot skills as such, it's just his ball use in general. He's a composed footballer, he's good in traffic and he doesn't panic with ball in hand.
