Hasn't Petrie been a stay at home forward this year? Petrie would get in as a forward if anything I would have thought.

True, but he has the capacity to go into the ruck if need be - and be very effective - so depends what they see in him.

Either way, my point still stands in that one of the best ruckman for the year would improve your team more than the 8-10th best midfielder. You only need to look at the possession count and clearences of Collingwood midfielders when Jolly went down and Wood stepped in.

The Melbourne media overhype Goldstein bigtime. Leuenberger was better in the ruck and around the ground last Saturday. It was evened up late when Goldy kicked a couple after the heat went from the game.

Goldstein had 42 hit outs, 1 goal asset, 2 1% & 2 goals......but Leuenberger was clearly better

DanRoo ur doing it wrong!!!!

Goldstein got all of his touches in junk time!!!

He should have had 3 goals but Wells marked it on the line. But anyway?

I voted yes however it all depends on whether they pick 2 ruckman. Cox is the clear No. 1 for mine and Goldstein the clear No. 2, with McEvoy rounding out the top 3.

If they pick 2 ruckmen then yes, he along with Cox will be AA. If not then I fear they'll take the safe bet and go Cox. Dont get me wrong, hes been very good this season but IMO Goldstein has been playing at a higher level virtually solo more consistently, although West Coast do play 2 dominate rucks.
Safe? You mean obvious right?

He hasn't had as much ruck time as Goldy as he shares those duties with NN. In overally impact he easilly trumps Goldy and as of last week was ranked 2nd overall by champion data in the league.

Not to downplay Goldstein at all since he has been fantastic, but Cox has been consistently better over the season.

Yep, Goldy makes it easy. Been the best tap ruckmen in the league this this year.
Actually I disagree.

He averages the most hitouts in the league true because he is pretty much a lone hand there, but the quality of his ruckwork is probably not the best.

Both Jamar and Mumford average more hitouts to advantage.

When you compare him to Cox who spends substantially less time in the ruck you have Goldstein with an average of 31.5% of hitouts going to advantage and Cox with an average of 38.4%. In raw numbers it is 11.7 HOA (Goldstein) and 11.1 HOA (Cox).

So he has been excellent for a young guy getting a ton of time playing in the ruck, but the quality of his tapwork is not yet up with the best.

I think from the way he responded you could say he is the clear favourite for AA ruck this year.

He's been the clear favourite for a while now. It's more a question of whether they select two ruckman in the All-Australian team or not, as that's the only way Goldstein will get in this year, as Cox has the #1 spot locked away.

Mitch Clark deserved it more in 2009 but they went for one ruck so I hope they do the same this year. If Sandilands wasn't injured it would've been Sandi and Cox AA.

Yeah, that's the problem with being a North supporter, your players ALWAYS BEING TALKED UP IN THE MEDIA.

You can't go down the newsagents without being blinded by front page after front page screaming about the likes Ryan Bastinac and Kieran Harper and Jamie MacMillan.

I feel for players like Daisy Thomas and Judd and Dyson Heppell who really don't get the recognition they deserve from the Melbourne press.

(In all seriouslyness, Goldstein is the breakout player of the year, is doing it singlehanded and deserves every single plaudit he gets.)

That's the problem with being such a big powerful iconic club like ours, the media shoot their load all over young players, when other clubs like Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond, Carton etc barely get recolonized. :D

Yep. I for one would like to have heard much more about Melbourne's youth over the last two years from the media.

Surely having flown under the radar they are now in the eight and going great guns?

Ok guys, we get the message. FWIW he's had an outstanding year and for a late addition to AFL it's been even more remarkable. When it comes to North, I think the emergence of Ziebell has been equally as impressive, but you have got to start beating top sides. You should have really beaten Carlton.

I'd still have Cox as number one, but Goldstein has certainly earned some notice.

We always knew Ziebs could play.

Aside from Todd coming on, my most exciting development this season has been Kieran Harper playing early and playing very well.

I agree!!! Until North tops a top 8 side who cares!! Hopefully it's starts tomorrow:D

Cox clearly #1

if they go with a 2nd ruckman Goldstein is the man!!
