Interesting is the other two. Both Haetta and McCarthy have nominated 18 months. It would be interesting to know what is behind that, but sort of good to see our better VFL prospects making them selves just that little bit less accessible to other clubs.

I might be wrong but I’ve always interpreted the 18 month piece as a directive from a club who plans to take them that wants it to be a deterrent to others still contemplating

I cant imagine McCarthy wants to make himself less accessible. Hes nearly 25, in career best form and surely his chance is now. He would have some guarantee from atleast 1 club that they will take him on an 18 month contract surely.

Yes, I think either that, or a similar commitment from Richmond that they will take him in the 2025 draft if another club does not, giving him 2 years guaranteed. The only other possibility would be he has a career he doesn't want to give up for a 6 month contract on minimum money.

He is certainly an age group we would have interest in, belonging naturally to the 2018 draft crop where we have just Mansell, Ross, Koschitzke, Hayes-Brown and Ryan on our list and only 2 of those are best 22. It is a similar story with the draft crops before and after as well, only 1-2 genuine best 22 players each.

Probably a lot more to it than that though.

That is definitely one of the 3 most likely explanations from where I sit.

Toner done nothing to warrant a selection , tbh I can’t see any of the options pushing ahead of a few youngsters already out of our side , short odds we won’t participate

I think he is. He turns defence into attack just about every time he gets the ball. He has speed and strength and a very good kick. Would love to pick him up mid year if we can.

McCarthy in line for pick 1 and a trip across to another world. No way you're doing that for 6 months. Haetta who knows.

Toner a big talent. We've been playing him in a different position to develop him into a more rounded player.

I still struggle to see the knocks on Archie May, he’s still only 20 years old and now playing good footy for Subiaco in the WAFL. Was named among the best players in the state game on the weekend. We probably don’t need him now with faul, Armstrong, simms and Fawcett all on the list but he would have to be an upgrade on either Samson or Kozi. Club should have just listed one of those blokes with a season ending finger injury.
