I no this has allready been done and i no half of you wont reply, but after our recent shock injuries, was Beamer worth it to get Ottens? Im not disputing getting Otto, but was Moloney the best choice to give away eg: could we have given Gardiner and a 1st round draft pick etc etc.

I know losing Moloney was a given and we wouldnt of been able to get Ottens free, but was Moloney the best idea for the trade?

I think if geelong had of offered Melbourne Charlie Gardiner as well with 2 draft picks they would have laughed at us.

Remember who other clubs were asking for. Jimmy Bartel and Tenace or Jame Kelly...

I would have no problems with trading Tenance in leui of the others but Jimmy and Kell - NO chance. Overall I am pretty happy with the trade. Moloney is a top footballer and will be a good player for Melbourne but he has not dont much for them this year with the exception of the first few weeks.

Brad Ottens has held his own, he has kicked goals, he won the game for us against port adelaide last time and has the x-factor about him. He can turn a game upside down. Unfortunatly, Brent could not offer us that.

Brad is also one of the best tap ruckman going around, his work in the centre in the last 5-10 minutes of a quarter is second to none.

Cheers

Obviously we have one of the best ruck combinations in the league. Ottens and King (when fit) would be able to start in the ruck at any club in my opinion. One of my mates jsut asked me about Beamer, thats why i posted it.

Tenace being traded i wouldnt of minded as much, and even though Beamer issnt having a great year, most demons supporters are happy with beamers performances i think.

Thats my 2 cents

Happy with the deal, has done a great job for us in the ruck and provided an extra target up forward.

On another note, I know this may sound petty but can we not butcher the English language:

ie. "wouldn't of" = "wouldn't have"
"had of" = "had have"

Thank you, have a nice day.

Very petty.. You must be from Toorak. I belive we are talking footy here and are not really interested in an english lesson.

Surely you have better things to do.

......here we go again.

Ever thought of doing a search on this topic before posting the question again???
There must be a thread about this started every two weeks by the newest person to register on the site.

Maybe on the Geelong Board, we need to have a FAQ thread, one of which could be the general boards thoughts on this trade, maybe then we would only get a new thread about this topic every 4 weeks.

CAn we start a new board...those idiots who want to write about the beemer trade board.

Give it a rest. Best thing we have done at the trade table for years.

How would he have helped us at the moment. Our injuries are up the spine, forwards and talls nature, our midfield is Ok.

Get a life or a new topic

er der didnt i say 'i know this has been done before? And also i only did it because my mate who goes for Melbourne was with me and he was wondering what the majority of the Geelong community thought.

So before you start hanging crap on fellow supporters (dont start doing a StK) remember those 2 things

I didnt say it wsnt a good trade, i think it was a bloody good trade getting ottens, i was just wondering if Moloney was the best trade, and why not Tenace or someone else.

I am frustrated that you and your Melbourne mate are unable to use the search function provided by the website. If you are upset I am hanging it on you for being unable to be the slightest bit resourceful, then so be it.

I see you joined back in April, since then, on this board alone, there have been 10 threads about this topic

Don't forget at the end of last year we had a great midfield. Ablett, Chappo, Ling, Ricco, Corey, Milburn, Bartel, Brynes, Tenace etc and Koula doing a great job in Kelly's absence. At that stage, we could've given up Moloney; Kelly to come back, plus the likes of Brent Prismall etc to come in. Our stocks were high...

Go Moloney and go Geelong for the decision. They didn't part on bad terms. Win win if you ask me...

Perhaps because they could get the deal done. At the start of trading Moloney was on the untouchable list but in the end a hard decsion was made. Wrong one you say, then what would you do when they said
"Bartel , Kelly or Moloney otherwize forget it".Do you deal or walkaway?

However, Im under the impression that Collingwood might have been interested trading for Tenace. So let go Tenace you say, well that again is personal preference, basically thats the art of draft/recruiting/list management.Geelong thought Tenace had more upside and that will not be proven in one season.

Think about how clubs are thought of after drafting players then again a few years down the track. When Ottens was originally drafted Melbourne went passed him to get Travis Johnston. Since then its has been dumb, smart, dumb, smart depending on the form of the two players. What about the Hawks with Hodge instead of Judd and Ball, dumb or smart?Id say the the descion is in on one of their later picks that year Rick Ladson at 16 when they could have had James Kelly or Steve Johnson or whole heap of other players but thats the tough bit judging tomorrow by todays performance.

Its probably the hardest part of football because one really never knows if one has made the right or wrong choice.Did you make the right choice and had bad luck or did you you make the wrong choice but the development at the club has given you a player far better than his pick warranted. Was Playfair the 41st best player in 2001, would he be considered good pick or good development?Theres a kid who played in the U18 champs this year that could make a few have red faces because hes the type of kid that could get over looked or picked first round. Not quite the right height or mould but he is the type that could become anything or he may well flop and you get nothing (McKinnley, VicMetro)

In the end you make a choice knowing that if you get it right more than half the time your a genius. Lets concetrate on what we have and what we can get in the future.
So, lets put it bed shall we, Tweeks gone ,the deal is done, done and dusted, the case is close, the bell has rung, the race has been run ,the chickens have hatched and the fat lady has sung till shes hoarse. The clocks been punched and the boots have been hung. Its all finished, all done, all sold, gone, finished, cuput, over and OUT.

Please no more.

Get off Tenace's back. He's in his second season and people are wanting him to be dominating games. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Tenace will be among our top 3 midfielders in 2 years, perhaps even our best. He showed last year what he can do, but has struggled this year to handle the extra attention he gets and his lack of accountability. This year is a learning year for him and he will improve next year to be better than last year, just like Kelly, Ablett and Bartel before him. He has pace that very few can match which, combined with great skills, makes him a very valuable asset to the team.

Gardiner is another who needs more time. He is still a developing player and I don't think we will see his best until he's probably about 22 or 23. He is a reasonably big player and will take a bit more time, but I think he's another who'll be worth it in the end.

As for the main focus of this thread. It's been done before and it's the same each time, if you expected more than what Brad has offered, you expected too much. He's a forward/ruckman, he will not win the Coleman, nor will he have the most hitouts in the league, but he will be somewhere in between, which he is. Also note his tackle count this year and watch his second efforts, he has added another dimension to our forward line and we would not be in 3rd if we didn't have him.

So was the trade worth it? Of course it was, we needed Ottens and we gave up what we had to. Moloney is a good player, but he just wasn't as important to our team as Ottens has proven to be.

*And I apologise to theHoff if I have taken your comments out of context.

Tenace is only second year and is having the blues a bit. He will come good, the kid can play

I suppose if we have 12 dudes injured and another 3 playing with the flu it is very easy to say, "wow I wish we had that beamer guy back today" but really in that situation you are stuffed with or without him. He wouldnt have helped us with our personal problems.

Anyway I dont even rate him that highly. Good bloke by all accounts, not a bad player but cmon he isnt that impressive. Even at Melbourne he is more a second stringer.

Oh I don't know, he could have popped down the shops to get some lemsip, maybe he could have chucked in a few dollars for payers who were a bit skint, or offered counselling to players with deep inset psychological scarring.

Westcat,

You have taken my comments out of context slightly. My point was that i would rather have traded a Moloney/Tenace when considering the other players rival teams were requesting, i.e.Jimmy B & Kell, however i still dont think Tenance has the footy smarts to play more than 60-70 games.

I would be very suprised if both Tenace or Gardiner got to the 100 game mark... Tenace shows some great climpses but then lets his good work down by not using the first option or his kicking ability. Gadiner just does not have the footy brain to make it in the big time. There are some players who cannot make the next step but will dominate the VFL each week. Unfortunatly, i think Gardiner falls into the second category. Tenance i am still deciding and really want him to suceed espicially after the promise he showed in the 3 pre-season games i watched.

I would love to be wrong but that is just my opinion and the feeling i have. There are a few other players i would prefer to see in the line up before those 2. i.e. Mackie, brilliant footy brain, reads the play well. Needs a big pre-season and to gain some bulk and he will deliver what he has promised for so long.

Let me know what you think?
