Hi Guys,

Where is he at? hows his shoulder?

i heard nothing on him and couldnt find anything in our forums.

I think its a make or break year for this kid as he has now been on the list for a few years and never really called for selection. Providing he stays fit.

I think he showed something against collingwood but Matthews Lloyeds BOG selcection for the TV as alittle over the top.

Would love to see him in the side, i think he has plenty to offer.

He seems behind the likes of Davis, Stevens, Talia, Sellar and L Thompson. Talent is there, seems big and strong and very competitive. He excells with one on one situations but injuries has hampered him.

Like Drummond he has gone missing. A coincidence? I think not....

Once he's back, if he builds on what he's shown over the last two years then he'll go very close to forcing Stevens out of the team IMO. Definitely further along than Talia and is a far more natural defender than Sellar.

For these reasons I see him as being very important to the overall succession plan for our defence. If he's good enough to force Stevens out then we don't really have to consider giving Stevens another contract for 2012, Young would be locked in as third tall and Talia will be next in line and they can fight it out for that spot. Then Talia comes into the fold when either he's good enough to force Truck out or he retires.

As handy as Stevens is, I think it would have to be some sort of failure if we had to offer him another contract.

I don't buy into this business that it's his last year - be selected or be delisted. The crows have a serious backlog of KPP, and I don't think delisting is a wise decision - in fact its a waste.

What I'd like to see is, let's say seller and young struggle to gain a spot this year, try to trade them for payers that will fill our needs, such as a couple midfielders or even a draft pick. I know it's easier said than done but I think young can make the afl, but just needs to be part of a team like Carlton or at geelong, who has an aging defense. I think there would be plenty of teams who would like a guy like young who has 4 or so years of development and could either play a role in defense, or at least be a fringe player for a team who is a bit thin in defense.

Let's not waste the development we've invested in these guys.

the fact that he's fallen behind Talia in the pecking order, i doubt we'll see much of Will Young this year, unless there are injuries.

How has he fallen behind Talia exactly? He's injured so can't play, and Talia has shown SFA at AFL level, and that's only MMC level at that.

Additionally, Young was easily among the best key defenders in the SANFL last year, Talia was solid but he's got a long way to go.

Seriously bizarre line of thought you're running with here. We have a backlog of young KPP talent, so instead of getting rid of the "handy" near 30 year old clogger, you want to trade that unfulfilled talent, which on the market is worth nothing, for midfielders or draft picks that are worth less than nothing. Then you say that we shouldn't waste the development that we've invested in them.

Doesn't compute big fella!

Rutten will be playing for at least 2 or 3 years. Stevens for maybe 2-3 years also. I cant see Craig getting rid of these guys unless they sucumb to injuries/bad form. But what Im saying is that IF the crows choose to delist young, wouldnt it be better for them to see if there is any trade value for him? Having said that, now that we have a few options for the small forward position and our rucks are healthy, there is no real deficiency for us. But draft picks would be very handy. Young himself was pick 70 or something like that. You might get a diamond in the rough.

I would love for young to stay on our list, but if he struggles to get games this year, we should get something for him instead of simply delisting him.

Phil Harper: We're grooming Daniel as a key position player. We've basically got Rutten and Davis as the first two, with Stevens in a pocket. He'd be the first reserve after those guys. We rate Daniel highly, he had a serious injury about halfway through his 1st year but we've been impressed with what he has done this year.
i'm thinking we'll see Talia before Young.

i'd rather keep him for depth, or put him on the rookie list, unless he wants to leave to look for greater opportunities elsewhere.

I think a number of you seriously underrate the quality of this bloke. He's only entering his 3rd year on our list and yet he's already played 2 senior AFL games, the second of which he acquitted himself admirably, earning BOG honours from Matthew Lloyd. The main reason why he hasn't played more senior footy is, as KingJames notes, we have a massive backlog of KPD players.

Last year he was behind Rutten, Bock, Stevens and Davis, thats a fair list of players to get his nose in front of for a spot. At SANFL level, he has emerged as one of the top defenders in the comp, who rarely ever gets beaten, he held Scott Welsh to about 1 touch IIRC:eek: If Rutten were to ever break down he would be the perfect replacement.

Lets at least wait until he's recovered from his shoulder injury before we start delisting the poor fella.

You obviously haven't been supporting the Crows very long.

We are coached by Neil Craig and he loves Scott Stevens and basically any moderately talented footballer who has worked hard on their game and improved to the level that they can compete in the AFL. To Craig, these players are perfect demonstrations of what can be achieved by hard work, perseverance, preparation and dedication. They are invaluable to the club and set the benchmark for club culture and training intensity.

Unless we have a new coach, Stevens will never be seen as a "30 year old clogger" thus Young and Talia will not play any games for our club (baring injury) in at least the next 3 seasons.

Lol Carl.

Nothing better than a crisp early season turnover from Poo Poovens to reacquaint us with our love for genuine talent.

Spot on!!!!

He won't be going anywhere anytime soon...this bloke is a genuine, dyed in the wool, blue chip defender, just needs a touch of good luck with injuries and he'll be away!!!

Almost completely missed the tone of this post...certainly worth reading through things twice sometimes :D

If this happens (which it won't) then Craigy gets a great big fail for succession planning. He knows what he's doing though (see Hart/Torney/Massie) and will do the right thing with Stevens.

Absolutely, can't believe the ignorance on here regarding Young's capabilities.

Young had the typical Crows "2 game debut season" that many of our players have they ear before they become regular contributors. Young is injured which hurts him, but once he gets back I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him receive a call-up after some decent SANFL form - and there is no reason to expect anything less than good SANFL form from him given his fine form last year.

First game for AFC was an absolute shocker. Second game showed remarkable improvement. Delist Stabby.:).

Sounds a bit like Otten (and Dangerfield but the other way around) :o

Also what's this about delisting me?! ;)

Probably something to do with your avatar.
