Just reported on SEN that Williams got someone from her box to flash their watch in the eyes of her opponent blinding her.

It will probably be reported on the news for further infomation, also on SEN.

Williams has denied it, but the Australian Open officials have asked for a tape of the incident from Channel 7. She will probally be fined.

Tennis Australia are reviewing Channel 7's tapes of the match to see whether a man in Wiliams' box, sitting in the bottom left seat below Serena's mum, was using his watch to reflect sunlight into Vaidisova's eyes when she was serving from the far end. According to Channel 7, the man was only raising his hand over his eyes - which created the reflection - during points that Vaidisova was at the far end. When Williams was at the far end, he lowered his hand and the watch was out of sight.

Calling Williams a cheat is a bit harsh. As if she would "get" someone to do that. I think she has enough belief in her own game than to resort to such tactics. Whether the guy in her box did something wrong or not, it has nothing to do with Williams.

All this is, is a channel 7 beat up. They "uncovered" it, and want to make it into something bigger than it is.

The person in question was part of Serena's entourage. I don't think Serena instructed him to do it, he probably decided to do it himself, but he should be barred from attending the final.

What drugs are you on? This is not a media beat-up. Whether or not this idiot's tactic worked or whether or not Vaidisova was affected, the fact remains that he was very suss and it was all caught on camera. Why was he holding his watch up and twisting it around to catch the sun when Vaidisova was serving?

If it was such a problem to Williams' opponent during the match, she would've said something to the umpire who would in turn have instructed security to speak to the man in question about it.
Apparently one of the Channel 7 commentators virtually accused the guy of doing it deliberately - fairly long bow to draw on that one.
As for Serena deliberately instructing a member of her entourage to do that - doubt it.

Worth questioning the guy responsible, but aside from banning him from wearing a watch next time, if he indeed was trying to do it deliberately, it's not like he's going to admit to it.

Think about it for more than a millisecond.

It was only catching the sun on the angle the camera was on.

Camera – Vaidisova two utterly different angles. Look at the footage the camera was nowhere near where Vaidisova face was.

Did any other camera or anyone else in the stadium pick anything up at all?

Or was it a brilliant premeditated tactic to shine the reflection of the watch down the middle of the court?

I know that I very much tend to settle into a couple of different viewing postures when I watch tennis, and I tend to shift between them depending on what is happening in the game, who is serving etc...You see it all the time, they look up to the players box and many times the coach or whoever is locked in the same pose they were in the last shot.

Completely by accident the glare caught in ONE camera a couple of times and a genius at 7 tried to turn it into a conspiracy theory.
