VALE THE MONSTER

Williamstown FC's most famous identity has passed away.

Gerry Callahan aka 'The Monster' has passed away peacefully aged 89.

171 games.
75 goals.

2 time premiership coach '58 & '59.
2 time best & fairest '51 & '57.
Multiple player & coach at representative level.
Captain of Williamstown's team of the century.

The true icon of our club.
I could listen to his stories for hours.

One minute silence for the great man.

RIP the VFA Recorder. The VFL has decided to scrap having footy records this year. What a joke. An A4 photocopied piece of paper here on in. 😬 20190407_072822.jpg

New to the area, looking forward to popping down for a few games. Go (checks notes) Seagulls.

As Obi said you will enjoy it.

Really think Willy is a unique club in Melbourne, very local and loyal supporters. A bit isolated no suburb immediatley to the south, west or east and we're at the 'end of the line'. Maybe just pick a nice day!

My VFL 2019 Grand Final video on YouTube - last quarter games scenes and after match celebration. If you watch between 8:00 - 9:50 minutes you]ll see the two incredible posters from Williamstown - great crowd reactions and excitement. Willy were brave and unlucky to not win in the end but what can you do.

Morris. Literally and metaphorically a champion.

Fancy bagging the s**t out of him all game and he plays like Fyfe in the 4th q of a grand final and panzes u hipsters?

bad luck always next years.

Willy were stiff to not get the chocolates against Brisbane yesterday. Willy have been there abouts for so many consecutive years but losing 1900 games of experience will take a while to remedy!

Attended the supporters information night last Thursday night and very impressed with the club's plans.

Major points were:

  • plans to build new change rooms near the current canteen, while enlarging the current player gym.
  • shortly installing new video scoreboard, fully funded by the club at $250k
  • planning on opening club gym to other sporting clubs and the public
  • Got through the covid years in good financial shape after battening down
  • Seagulls Nest pub returning close to pre covid turnover
  • will utilise the higher salary cap for stand alone clubs which was halved during the covid years
  • recruiting strategy to offer wider incentives to player targets - job offers, property and financial advice etc.
  • closer, non financial partnerships with sponsors
  • re-engaging with the local community

Good to talk with committee members and have the President, CEO and senior club coach talk about the future. Left enthused about the future.
