Absolutely pissweak from PAFC if true.

Clubs obsessing over controlling social media messaging, "the brand", club image and the like - players aren't robots, footy isn't dispassionate, and there was nothing prejudicial or offensive in what Rioli wrote.

We need more emotional honesty and investment in footy, not less. More rivalry, more charged emotions, more feeling. Screw Port Adelaide turtling their heads back into their shells - they should back Rioli, back Hinkley, and lean into a great win from Sunday.

How do we know port forced him to take leave? Could be due to all the racist abuse he copped in his DMs from hawks fans.

Might be jumping the gun there fella. Nothing in that report indicates Port has forced Willie to take leave and I'd be stunned if that was the case.

Also I'll be interested to see what if any response we get from Dunstall. I think in hindsight he'd like to have reworded his anecdote.

If I've gathered anything from Dunstall I'm sure he will come out and clear his portion of the air - didn't think there was any malice and think he spoke about Snr in a bit of an endearing way, just taking the micky out of himself and his old teammate.

Agree on this and feel like the reporting of this potentially being the reason is a bit of deflection to cover the Cyril Rioli reference in Willie's original post. The AFL wont want to revisit that again.

That's fine for you. For an indigenous man, where in the culture they don't even MENTION the deceased person's name, to have it not only mentioned, but essentially called a failure who was "one of the only people I have ever beaten", is very very poor taste and judgement. But not a great surprise, coming from Dunstall.

yeah thats also a fair comment when you put it in that perspective.

Whitest team in history until Chance Bateman was permitted to play.

Like I said, I expect Dunstall to come out and clear the air. I'm just saying there wasn't any malice or intent to cause offence. He's being extremely light hearted and I didn't hear any racial connotations to anything he said.

I'm not discrediting Juniors emotions or whether he took offence to it, he's entitled to that and he lives by customs and morals that myself and the great majority need further education and understanding of. I love the fact that he's standing up and taking voice if he feels hard done by in the AFL community.

Bloody hell this hawks port rivalry has more twist and turns than a soap opera.

Feel bad for Willie he is obviously hurting, he is young and its tough losing your father.

How he feels about Hawthorn amongst all these emotions, is personal and he is allowed to feel they way he feels.

Putting himself out there and coping all the shit that comes with social media sucks. I really respect Willie as a player so I hope he can heal and is back playing great footy again as soon as he is ready.

What happened?

Legacy issue with the Hawthorn Football Club in relation to Rioli's father and brother. Probably the outcome of the recent investigation that didn't satisfy the indigenous community.

Two different cultures not being able to find common ground as the system in place to mediate the situation is modeled on white industrialized society & law.

Clearly Willie is still aggrieved with the situation but probably didn't talk to anyone prior to his public outburst.

To be fair, others have also recounted this story about Willie Rioli Sr being unfit and beaten by Dunstall too. I don't think there's anything racist or nasty in it per se, given that footballers are supposed to be professional athletes.

Then if this happens there should be zero complaints when the waves of anger come back in return. Outside of people breaking the law by making threats of course.

Rioli opened himself up to this. He gets what he deserves.

Even today, we see alot of Indegenous players drafted, and then quickly spat out of the system because they're not given enough support when thrown into a new environment. Just imagine how bad that was in 1990 at Hawthorn.

Yeah - support. Because, largely, he's right.

You know what he doesn't deserve? ****wits DMing him on Instagram, that's not ok regardless.
