Eddie unsteady as leader of the Pies

In today's Age, well at least online. She seems to think that Eddie is losing the plot and can no longer hold his position at president. Reasons mainly about 'threatening to become tainted by his obsessive behaviour in recent times and occasional rantings against anyone who has done him wrong'

She then seems to list a bunch, in truthfulness very poorly written and not without the feeling that she has a grudge against us (shock horror), of other reasons for his unsteadiness, including:

- Not getting Cousins or Judd
- The hotel losses
- 'Gold Logie' Rant
- Channel 9 CEO job
- Loss of Swann and Arocca

I will say that i am a fan of McGuire and Malthouse. I think they got us from one of the darkest times in history to a point we were neck and neck with possibly the best teams ever. I also think that this crop of players can be seen as very very promising group of kids. I dont think that they should criticised.

I think that it has been tough for them, esp the Didak Shaw thing last year and i think they have held up well. I also think that eddie not being the face of the footy atm (unlike his Footy Show days) has helped.

Also seeing Malthouse handing over coaching to Hudson and the face of Neeld around a bit shows that we maybe ready for a change-over..... but not just yet...



Thoughts? Has Eddie lost the plot? Is it a changeover time?






Also, what was the 'Logie Rant'? I am bit remote and dont always get the melbourne news.

 
She is as relevant as Patrick Smith.

She like Patrick think that she's a celebrity and an important part of the football community, which is clearly not the case.
 
She is the sports editor for the age, it's like being the movies editor for a pr0n magazine.

The sports section of the Age is the most irrelevant and ordinary section of that paper, yet she continues to believe she is "so important".

Heard her on 3AW just before, even Neil Mitchell cut her off in the end, couldnt put up with her endless ranting about Eddie.

It has to be personal, you can't attack someone like that without an inherit hatred for the person, it's just not professional.

She is the main reason I dont even consider buying the Age.

JUST IGNORE HER, LIKE ALL PESTS SHE WILL GO AWAY.

Ed came out swinging this morning so I would say she hit a nerve.

He became President 8 years after 1990, now 11 years later apart from being competitive on and off the field we still havent won our 15th flag. It's obvious the more influentual supporters and supporter groups who are not dazzled by the fact that he is Eddie McGurie are getting tired of waiting as we "rebuild".
 
Meh. It's hard to take her seriously after she writes daily reports gushing about how awesome her Tigers are. She is embarrassing.

We've fallen at the last hurdle twice, got just as close in 2007 (plus finals in 06 and 08), and now all the talk is of a flag this year. I think once we get that close to the flag, it's far from the hands of the President, it's up to the players and the coach. We've obviously got the cattle to go all the way, because we've seen what we can do at our best, so what exactly would you suggest the President does, other than let our young team mature a little to develop more consistency?

And if someone published a rubbish, insulting article about you in one of the biggest newspapers in the country, I'm sure you'd want to defend yourself too. :rolleyes:
 
It is a rant and must be driven by jealousy because there is no logic.
Under Eddie's reign the Maggies have been very successful on and off the field.
They have a huge membership, an abundance of sponsors, world class facilities, in the finals just about every year, two grand finals and an excellent football dept lead by Malthouse (Bulldog trained!).
The only hiccups being The Beach and the Didak episodes, which they have fixed.
Why would you change such a successful set up, especially when Eddie has more time at the moment?
 
That meandered into personal which makes all her arguments tainted. Has a go at Ed for being "menacing", please Caro, the hypocrisy is delicious.

That said, I'm sure its a newsworthy piece..
 
I'm just happy she's taken her focus off us. Seriously, I think you guys have performed pretty well this decade: two grand finals and only one kick off a third. How well have the tiges been travelling in that time?

You're not the brightest of sparks Tess.

Eddies job is to provide the CFC with the best opportunities to win a flag. He doesn't get the ball and try and kick it through the goals. That's up to the players.

With the best recruitment team and training and development spending, the pies have improved dramatically since we slumped after our two GF losses. We are third favourite for a flag this year and will be there or there about for the next few year in fact we should be an even better chance over the next few years.

Only w***ers from irrelavant suporter groups who want us to fail so they can say 'I told you so', mercilessly bag Eddie.

So why has Ed changed his tune on linking MM future to Premierships? Maybe all those w***ers are less irrelevant than your everyday Paddy.

Wilson would of known Ed would react. Its just to easy. I'm grateful to Ed for what he has done at Collingwood but she should just be ignored.

How hypocritical is hse though. It is so blatant it isn't even funny. She says that its now all about Eddie and his nasty vandettas when Caro is blatantly not doing her job properly and carrying out her own vandetta. As she does time and time again throughout her journalistic career. She is a disgrace.

If they get someone with half a spine on footy classifieds, they should absolutely drill her on this article, it's motives and who she thinks could do the job better and why.
It's pretty poor of everyone in football if they just let her write this rubbish with no follow up.

Too harsh Padraig. I'd say she's more desperate. It's tough times in the print media these days; but Wilson's an enterprising woman. And,

Collingwood + Eddie + Malthouse + attack = ripper circulation.

Still, it's a wee bit hard to credit Wilson's assessment of the Pies president, given her evident anti-Collingwood bias. The article is a calculated response to the Club's declaring itself bound for premiership glory. If Wilson can keep a lively debate going over this, she'll have earned her pay.

But I don't think any Pies barrackers are being paid to denigrate Eddie, are they? And if there is a serious, orchestrated challenge to his leadership, I'd be prepared to hear what the challengers have to offer instead - in the best interests of the club. But it would have to be sensational........
 
This dried up old skank really needs a root.
 
Strange how you can write an article questioning Eddie's future and yet offer nothing in support of this position other than half-baked rumour & innuendo.

Nothing like slinging some mud at a high profile target in order to try and increase sales and remind the readers of your credentials as a hard nosed, uncompromising journo.... except where Richmond is concerned of course.
