Well done TP, you've single handedly managed to get most people here to dislike Nadal.

Nadal will always be a threat on every surface, everyone knows that - and he pushed Federer all the way. But the better player on the day won... Nadal had a crack but could not do it when it counted in the 5th, he had his chances. He has improved from last year I feel - but you can't really make a prediction from this on what will happen next year based on the various variables.

Get over it. He lost. Their head to head means nothing at the moment.

Nadal was the better player for the majority of the match, and the fact that Federer still won shows what a champion he is.
All the arguing about that is really quiet pathetic IMO, anybody can see that for most of the game Nadal was the better player, but Federer just showed what a legend he is by still managing to win.
End of story

Nadal had the better of the rallies, But Federer won so many points straight off his serve that evened things up. So how is a point won after 20 shots, worth more than a point won by a brilliant serve? Answer, its not.

Tennis is the only sport in the world basically, where the better player wins the high majority of the time.

Suck it up TP jeez.

And yes Rafa is closing the gap...but it means jack all if he cant win GS finals. I look forward to watching these two go at it again later in the year.

P.S Mens tennis forums is full of clowns. its about par with Bigfooty to be honest.

Just had a look on the MTF, even federer fans reckon he is a genuine threat on all surfaces now. Well done to fed fans for admitting but you wont get that from the wannabes in an Aussie rules website

lol at the parrot from 1 year ago

Infact if you read that forum you will find that even federer fans agree that Fed got lucky in the 2nd set cause nadal got tight.
:D:D:eek:

if he struggles against rafa on a surface where he is unbeatable, what does logic tell you on hardcourts? rafa is still improving while fed is on his prime. Rafa will win wimbledon and win it next year. He is a 20 year old playing his 2nd wimbledon only, for a guy who is supposed to be complete dud off clay, he almost beat federer.Yes federer is a champion and survived the onslaught but think about this, with the amount of improvement nadal has shown on grass compared to last year, federer must be really worried

its called mental toughness, which he is still developing  He will get there in time

I don't really like either of them to be perfectly honest, but people don't realise that Nadal is only 20 Federer is 26.
Nadal will most likely not be as good as Federer simply because he is a total freak, but it is unfair and stupid to compare them both when one is at the peak age, and the other isn't

exactly my point  some people are too thick to understand that

Well done Rafa, you surprised me with your play, and I think that even though Federer has the better game on grass, Rafa being in Federer's head makes the difference minute. Before this tournament I really thought that Nadal couldn't win Wimbledon for a long time, but now I am not so sure. The other side of the coin is that Federer only had the serve working for him, and that Rafa may never get a better shot to win the tournament than on Sunday.

Either way, Rafa has bridged the gap, and Federer needs some good coaching because he is not mentally up for these clashes. Rafa is the mentally-strongest tennis player I have seen.

What, Federer won? Wow, another unpredictable tennis tournament over

Mens tennis is now more boring than when it was Williams v Williams every final

My mind boggles.

Amazing how you contradict yourself TP. First you say and agree that he is not as mentally tough as Federer and now your agreeing to the fact that he is mentally tougher then Federer. You'll do anything just to make his loss more justifiable?!

yes cause he doesnt fear anyone, not even federer. He has much less talent than federer but look he can go toe to toe with the most talented guy ever on tour. What he needs to learn is consistency, which will come with experience.

I will add this..how do you define "mental toughness". That is a very loose term so to speak. If I were going to answer that I would say NADAL is probally better metally, as you do not see federer under pressure much to be honest. But away from his "comfort zone" Nadal I find is tougher under pressure.

This whole discussion seems to be ignoring one vital point...the final set score was 6-2. How emphatic do people want it? Fed won the last 4 games having saved break points at 2-2...how emphatic do people want it?

In the test, in the asking time, inthe heat of battle the champion won.

Rafa is a great player. After Federer and Djokovic probably the third best on grass ( Djok would have beaten him in the semi if fit and will never again lose to him away from clay), he's the best on clay and he is a great campaigner but coughing up the last 4 games in succession? Choke perhaps?

This prediction looks pretty shrewd now doesn't it? When fit and firing Djok will win the majority of his encounters with Nadal off the clay. Indeed he is 3-0 in competed for sets since the end of the clay season.

huh? the match was extremely close and it was 1 match only. Why are you prematurely ejaculating? come back next year after US open and bump this thread. You will have nowhere to hide.Federer will have a field day in the finals now that rafa is gone

I doubt very much he will have it easy. Djok is the real deal. It is my firm belief that based on his all round game he will be the one to eventually replace Federer at number one.

The match wasn't close. It was a better all round player beating a clay specialist in straight sets on hard. He will trouble fed on all surfaces in future.

Look, i am not saying novak is a bad player. He is playing out of his arse and he wont be able to keep his high standard of tennis cause he works hard for his point. He is a flashy player, who depends on his 1st serve very much unlike federer. Yesterday his serve with 20 odd aces bailed him out of trouble about 10 times. He is prone to unforced errors and he will not be a roger federer.Sure he will win half a dozen slams and yes he is talented, but he is on full swing now but his game is suspect to unforced errors.
