Wimbledon 2014 Part 2

Was too late for me, but thrilled with the result. Great to see a Canberran doing well, particularly one who I have heard great things about over the last 2-3 years through various people who know him. Champion written all over him, and he showed that tonight by not flinching after taking the lead against Nadal. I stayed up for the Gasquet match, so I've at least had one memorable match from Kyrgios at this Wimby personally. Marketer's dream as well, great potential as an ambassador and crowd-puller.

Let's also not overlook some other great results. Guys like Raonic, Dimitrov and Nishikori are really looking super and prepared to assault the top 5 or so. All 3 have showed real consistency this year, and Raonic particularly looks almost ready. I also predicted in January that Cilic would make a deep run at Wimbledon, hope he can maybe reach the final. It's easy to forget that Cilic is still only 25.
Also Federer has a real good shot here at no.18, and surprised at Stan's form on grass at the moment (good effort to beat Lopez).

Really pumped for Davis Cup over coming years. I have always loved watching Tomic's style of tennis, so if he can get a good run without injury and off-court issues, and Kokk and a few others progress well, we'll be looking rather ominous.

Really pumped for this second week of mens and womens tennis. I like most of the players left in the draw.

Also great work by the BF crowd here. Was a good read to see all the posters up at 4am living the dream. Bravo!

That OOP is insanely delicious, certainly one of the best we have seen this decade.

great points, exciting times all round

Just quietly, how ice-cool is he? His first serves in % was over 90% in the final set, with something like 22 of his 24 first serves for the set going in and then he serves the match out to love, with an ace to finish it off for good measure. Barely any sign of nerves whatsoever! :) :thumbsu:

And then he's so humble and gracious and so-on. :thumbsu:

I was waiting for the nerves to kick in in the last couple games of the set. But he just kept smashing it at Nadal with insane precision. Rafa looked literally helpless at times.

Wonder if I can do it again tonight!? Probably not.

Either way, the slam win is going to be really special this year.

Murray - back to back at home slam
Federer - no. 18! With 4 children!
Djokovic - arguably the hardest road to another slam win (only 1 in last 2.5 years despite his devastating consistency, has he even dipped below 10000 points in that time?).
Milos - First Slam! (in first slam final)
Dimitrov - First Slam! (in first slam final)
Cilic - First Slam! (in first slam final)
Wawrinka - completely unexpected on least favourite surface
Kyrgios - ...no words

If Tomic had half the heart and determination that Kyrgios had we'd have 2 top notch players.

Lets all hope Tomic can put it all together because despite alot of us not liking him he does have the game to be a good player.

Would be great to have a solid Davis Cup team.

Anyone know if his match is gonna be shown on free to air or FoxSports tonight?

Unbelievable! I fell asleep at the end of the 3rd after being awake for 20+ hours straight. Woke up and saw that he finished the job in the 4th and I could barely believe my eyes. This kid is an absolute superstar. He has made the quarter finals!

Fox Sports, 5:10pm.

It's amazing. Nadal wasn't bad by any stretch, Kyrgios just awesome. He better go on and win the bloody tournament now haha.

Despite the loss Rafa will of course gain some ranking points. Every cloud etc. :D

Awesome result last night. I was drifting in and out of consciousness for the last set but I still managed to catch the important bits.

Impressive display of nervelessness from Kyrgios - looks like the kid has the mental attributes to be a real topliner.
