Anderson was 2 sets to love up as well. i know he has had an injury hit season, but he has struggled to get any real momentum in his game atm. bad bad result.Day one review:
Good to see Sam Stosur on the board with a win. Tough ask next against Sabine unfortunately.
Coric pushing fellow countrymen Karlovic to three tight sets. Coric is definitely part of the next generation of stars.
Instomin defeating Anderson is a surprise. Denis is a handy player but Anderson needs to be putting these guys away in round one.
Ana Ivanovic- starting to lose faith in her ability to be a threat now. Bundled out lost to Alexandrova.
The magician man Monfils is out
Steve Johnson continues his good form straight sets win over Jaziri.
Witthoeft wins over Begu in two, witthoeft has potential to be a top 20 player I'd say.
Herbert upset win over Kolschreiber and Doi over Chirico.
Muller v Giraldo is stuck at 11-11 in the fifth, play has ceased for the day. This match will resume tomorrow.

I read later that Ana had an inflamed wrist injury suffered 2 weeks ago in Mallorca, and she didn't know if she would play. Alexandrova served well and hit the ball flat from what little I saw. still, probably the biggest upset of the day.
Huge fan of Witthoeft. I thought she might do well, despite her form leading into the tournament. Begu is very beatable outside of clay. I went 2/10 from my tips, my only other winner being Bertens. I can't believe she wasn't fav to beat Ostapenko, despite it being played on grass.
Schminds lost again to Halep. only hit 4 winners in a match which just went over an hour. think I may be stuck with her for a while yet(not complaining)
Can't believe Brengle lost to Nara. Nara hadn't won on the tour(without a retirement) since Indian Wells. Brengle had shown great form leading up as well. Pliskova just survived as well, 8-6 in the 3rd against Wickmayer.
Mug did what I thought she would do. she will be just happy just to get away with the W in what was a tough 1st Round.
You would think seven will show the 2 aussies as thier 2 games. we should hopefully get to see some of the other aussies in action later as well.
