This lady is going to be a star. She has jumped from 708 to 21 in 18 months, including a jump of 70 spots already this year. After the French Open, Mauresmo is blown away by her improvement.

She could get to the semis in her quarter of the draw - she'll probably play Venus (who doesn't seem to seriously contend anymore) or Serena (who has lost sets in her first two matches to nobodies), so she could go far.

Bloody Popp - with Henman losing, Wayne Arthurs has been robbed of his chance to win Wimbledon.

Big test comes to night with Henman gone and playing on centre court even more pressure for the clash with Nalbandian.
But defeating Stepanek so comfortably on grass is a top win.

Does anyone think Nadal's attitude is what cost him any chance at this tournament? We know he's not as proficient on grass, but he said after he won the French Open that he was "no chance" to win Wimbledon. That wasn't modesty to me, that was a lack of confidence, and I expected him to get a little bit further in this tournament than he did, all due to his defeatist attitude.

Mary Pierce has taken the first set 6-1 in her match againt Ivanovic. Almost every game went to deuce, but for some reason Pierce kept coming away with the goods. Not pleased....

Very disappointed. She got her game back in the 2nd set, but couldn't get the early break she suffered back. This is a terrible result, only Lleyton to really look out for now.

Not saying he is going to win - but have a look at Andrew Murray from Scotland. The next big thing for British tennis. He won the US Open boys singles last year, and is coming along quite nicely and getting big wraps from Boris Becker and John McEnroe to name a few. Will be interesting to see whether he can spark some life into British tennis post Tim Henman.

Good call...Murray looked pretty impressive against Nalbandian - especially his forehand and ability to anticipate the next shot.
When he gets experience and adjusts the attitude a bit (i.e. no tanking), he'll be alright...although having back problems at age 18 doesn't sound too promising.

Third round completed with few upsets - even Serena's loss to Jill Craybas wasn't totally unexpected due to an injury.

Most of the main contenders still in play - Hewitt will have a very tough fight to go beyond the quarters. Even if he gets past Aussie Taylor, Ancic is extremely good on grass (assuming he beats Lopez!). Bottom half looks set for Roddick to take apart, Nalbandian (who beat Murray in five) and Grosjean won't trouble him - and I still reckon Gasquet can get to the semis.

Myskina vs Dementieva

Again, the top half looks the tougher - Kuznetsova and Myskina have had a tough road to get this far and may struggle, Mauresmo is a serial choker, so the winner of Davenport and another great choker "Ex-Aussie" Kim may go to the final. Dementieva's serve is shocking but apparently has Richard Krajicek working with her. Sharapova's only serious challenge may come from the rejuvenated Mary Pierce.

They were saying on the radio it was a shock and Serena woulda been 20-1 on - but in an article yesterday [?] she was saying how she is playing in serious pain with fractures in her ankle - didn't sound good for her prospects!

Wouldn't it be better if someone you dislike loses earlier? Therefore less ranking points, prizemoney etc etc. There is no shame in losing to someone like Federer. I have taken great satisfaction from the dud's early round losses over the years.
