This lady is going to be a star. She has jumped from 708 to 21 in 18 months, including a jump of 70 spots already this year. After the French Open, Mauresmo is blown away by her improvement.

She could get to the semis in her quarter of the draw - she'll probably play Venus (who doesn't seem to seriously contend anymore) or Serena (who has lost sets in her first two matches to nobodies), so she could go far.

Bloody Popp - with Henman losing, Wayne Arthurs has been robbed of his chance to win Wimbledon. ;)

And :D to Henman.

Does anyone think Nadal's attitude is what cost him any chance at this tournament? We know he's not as proficient on grass, but he said after he won the French Open that he was "no chance" to win Wimbledon. That wasn't modesty to me, that was a lack of confidence, and I expected him to get a little bit further in this tournament than he did, all due to his defeatist attitude.

Did the little prick win?
no, but Hewitt did, and it was a great match, straight sets though.

Roddick scrapes through the 2nd round in 5 sets against a qualifier.

Aussie Joachim is out.

Six women through to the 4th round, four of them being Russian. Screamer and Petrova should make it six Russians tonight.

Not saying he is going to win - but have a look at Andrew Murray from Scotland. The next big thing for British tennis. He won the US Open boys singles last year, and is coming along quite nicely and getting big wraps from Boris Becker and John McEnroe to name a few. Will be interesting to see whether he can spark some life into British tennis post Tim Henman.
Good call...Murray looked pretty impressive against Nalbandian - especially his forehand and ability to anticipate the next shot.
When he gets experience and adjusts the attitude a bit (i.e. no tanking), he'll be alright...although having back problems at age 18 doesn't sound too promising.

Third round completed with few upsets - even Serena's loss to Jill Craybas wasn't totally unexpected due to an injury.

Men's draw:

Federer vs Ferrero
Gonzalez vs Youzhny
Hewitt vs Dent
Ancic vs Lopez
Mirnyi vs T.Johansson
Nalbandian vs Gasquet
Tursunov vs Grosjean
Coria vs Roddick

Most of the main contenders still in play - Hewitt will have a very tough fight to go beyond the quarters. Even if he gets past Aussie Taylor, Ancic is extremely good on grass (assuming he beats Lopez!). Bottom half looks set for Roddick to take apart, Nalbandian (who beat Murray in five) and Grosjean won't trouble him - and I still reckon Gasquet can get to the semis.

Women's draw:

Davenport vs Clijsters
Maleeva vs Kuznetsova
Mauresmo vs Likhovtseva
Myskina vs Dementieva
Pennetta vs Pierce
V.Williams vs Craybas
Petrova vs Peschke
Dechy vs Sharapova

Again, the top half looks the tougher - Kuznetsova and Myskina have had a tough road to get this far and may struggle, Mauresmo is a serial choker, so the winner of Davenport and another great choker "Ex-Aussie" Kim may go to the final. Dementieva's serve is shocking but apparently has Richard Krajicek working with her. Sharapova's only serious challenge may come from the rejuvenated Mary Pierce.

Hewitt first up on centre court tomorrow (rest day today)

They were saying on the radio it was a shock and Serena woulda been 20-1 on - but in an article yesterday [?] she was saying how she is playing in serious pain with fractures in her ankle - didn't sound good for her prospects!

quite obviously the Williams sisters didn't want to have to play each other, especially as early as the 4th round. they haven't played each other earlier than the quarters since the 98 Oz Open.

anyone notice how huge Serena's breasts are getting? how does she play with those?

The longer Hewitt stays in the bigger the satisfaction it will be when the twit finally loses.
Hewitt has no chance to win Wimbeldon no chance at all. What a prat

Wouldn't it be better if someone you dislike loses earlier? Therefore less ranking points, prizemoney etc etc. There is no shame in losing to someone like Federer. I have taken great satisfaction from the dud's early round losses over the years.
Geez, you have a massive chip on your shoulder. Something to do with being a Carlton supporter? :D

I'm sick of all you morons cheering against Lleyton. He is an absoulute champion, how can you honestly not support him? His determination is inspiational, didn't you people see the Nalbandian or Nadal matches at the 2005 Australian Open? Because if you did, then I can't understand why you wouldn't be supporting the only decent tennis player we've got.

Without him, can you possibly imagine our Davis Cup team? Think about the match at Melbourne Park where Lleyton came back from two sets down against Federer! Tell me that wasn't one of the greatest sporting moments of all time!

Come on Lleyton, go all the way and show these fools the champion you are!

Well said. If he does get up in a grand slam again, I am going to have a field say sticking it up these people.

He's looked as good as anyone IMO. Don't write him off yet.
