Roast: The crowd

Did you all forget that you were at the football? Disgraceful effort when my lounge room has a stupid power chant echoing around the place. The crowd needs to be sent back to Peel to find their voice.
Roast from me too. How can we let the away supporters make a bigger sound than our passionate fans.

I guarantee we will make more noise than Collingwood supporters next Friday.

My block tried its best but I reckon most purples were holding their collective breath and praying for the win...

I really really want us to prevail over the Pies - but how do others rate our chances after a huge physical effort (Tanner played his part) followed by a mere 6-day break on the virtually foreign field of the MCG, against Collingwood all rested up after their bye?

If the hammy isn't bad he could be back after the bye.

I think Tanner will always be a backup player but I think he has done enough to be promoted to the senior list next year. It is great to have a tall that can come in whenever we have an injury. I am happy for him because I had suspected he would be delisted

Yep my thoughts exactly... don't mind playing the pies after their bye but the afl giving us a 6 day break is bullshit

Having said that I think we will still win

Well done on the win. I don't really subscribe to the theory that Port would have won if we'd taken our chances in front of goal, because chances are, the Dockers would have won the centre clearance anyway, and replied with another goal. I'd love a dollar for every Port turnover yesterday - I reckon I could retire very comfortably!!!

wtf Cassisi? Most pathetic excuse ever. They have a total of 6 on their injury list and didn't manage to beat a team that has 15 on their injury list. Sure a couple of their players missing are above average players (Ryder, Hombsch) but out of our 15 out, 3 are rated elite, none of theirs are and more than 6 of ours that are missing are B22. 2 best rucks out (yep same), 2 best key defenders out (yep same), gun full forward (no, but we are missing last year's Brownlow medalist and another elite mid/fwd). No matter how he does the maths (obviously not his strong point) it wasn't their outs that cost them the win - they were pretty putrid and if anything, we should have won by more really.

They don't teach maths down at the Sharks.

TBH it wasn't the highest standard game from both teams. I was a little surprised Freo won as Port almost beat the Dogs in what was a higher standard game the week before

And yeah, Suban was good. Seemed to fade in the second half but his first was as good as I've seen from him. Given him a lot of stick over the years but if he plays like that more often there aint much to be critical over.

I also saw Suban marshalling our young mids like Blakely at different stages of the game. In the last quarter, send Blakely back out of our attacking 50 as the stoppage was too congested. Ball came out and Blakely then go a possession and kicked it back into our forwards. Clearly Ross is using him to develop our younger inside mids.

Mate it's been a crazy season. Geelong lost to Collingwood recently, and less than a month later we smashed the Pies by 11 goals - go figure!!!

On a lighter note, I've heard that the AFL has ordered 200,000 hotdogs for grand final day, because there won't be any Pies there :-)

I commented during the game how pathetic is our Perth cheer squad. They need an influx of the Melbourne squad.

Agree with everything said; plus some extras:

Positives

- I think Dawson and Spurr are fairly maligned at times (the former more so) but I think they did an incredible job yesterday. Keeping in mind our defense has taken a hammering this year (McPharlin retired, Johnson inj, Silvagni inj, A. Pearce inj, Duffield ret, Ibbotson out of form) - they've managed to hold together a fairly inexperienced back-line and adapt to new roles. Spurr's intercept marking has been superb and Dawson's awareness of the ball has been Elvis-like; we all know skills-wise they're not the best two players on the park but they give their absolute all and deserve some commendation. Hats off to both of them.

- Zac Clarke: I think a number of people might underestimate how important it was for him to step up yesterday, and he did. Dominated the hitouts, took on the game in the last quarter and even looked fairly agile at times. His best games seem to come when he plays sole ruck for some reason; in any event I feel it's the step in the right direction for him and should give him some confidence in the coming weeks.

- Youngsters: What a lot of people have said, really really love Tanner's frenetic energy in the first quarter - was playing all over the ground with two inside 50 marks and a bunch of spoils. Crozier's composure down back as mentioned has been an absolute Godsend.

- Pav: Just might play on... (McCarthy, Pav, Tabs in the same team? Juicy!)

- Barlow/Neale/Mundy = (just under) 100 disposals between the three. Holy shit!!!

- Taberner: Lyon mentioned he was playing with a bad ankle from last week, although not as dominant he put in a solid performance. Big props to him for battling throughout the 4 quarters.

Negatives

- I'm enjoying the experimentation with players in different roles, but I think Walters needs to go back to forward pocket. We're simply a 3-4 goal better side each week when he's in that role - leave the midfielding to the midfielders!

- Tanner's face when he got injured was worse than Neale's after he got hit; poor dude has so much to play for and hope these 2 games have bought him some more time in the senior's.

- Crowd: Our best/most important win this year and I've never heard a more flat and disaffective crowd than that. I know we've been used to carving it up the last 4 years but jesus christ take the small wins when we get them. I'm seeing more and more Freagles in the crowd these days than ever before.

I reckon my cheering would have being heard in perth from over here in melbourne the crowd was so flat yesterday hated the constant power chant coming from my tv

I'd never be allowed into the cheersquad I drink and swear to mutch

Besides presumably supplying the stuff to make the banner, does the club actually materially support the cheer squad in any way? You'd imagine it wouldn't be hard nor expensive to provide some kit and personnel support. Shibz used to post here, not sure what happened to her? Seppo do you know

The crowd is pathetic. Sorry crowd. I'm in the country so I can't make many games. It used to be a rush when we only got 20.000 and we were seen as crap. Remember the freo chant when we lost our first final to essondon. Amazing.
Sat next to the cheer squad against gws. What is this dockers clap clap clap shit. It's freeeooooo mofos. I'm looking forward going to melbourne thus year to hang out with seppo and the gang. The freo chant is louder in Melbourne. Seppo. Can you offer the subi mob some training/mentoring. Get some decent chants going.

is there a way to watch a replay of the game apart from foxtel? ( if its possible)
I sign up to the afl live pass for hd replays but it is available in standard def on the website without the live pass.
It's under the video tab but if you can't find it google 'afl smart replay'.

We do it out of love :)

I know it's been stated a few times already but for me one of the biggest highlights has to be Collins. He's like Leigh Brown MKII. I can't wait to see him and A.Pearce in the same backline with Crozier, Sheridan and Sutty running past for precision kicks. Add in Hughes getting a few more games into him and I reckon our backline will look ok post Dawson/Johnson. Collins doesn't look out of place and has that confidence to let him get to the next level.

I'm sure it's instructions, but Zac Clarke's ruck taps always seemed to be directed toward Port's goals instead of ours. He did ok, but it was frustrating to watch.
