Everyone on Windows 7/8 is getting a free upgrade. I haven't looked at it all yet but will upgrade when its available. Essentially its so microsoft can have everyone using the same version so they can save on supporting its predecessors.

I thought that meant you have one year to do the free upgrade. If you're still running Windows 7 after the year is up, the upgrade isn't free any more.

Yeah, maybe it was something like that, makes more sense. I just skimmed over it, saw Windows 10 looked like shit and didn't bother with it.

Don't do it, 10 will undoubtedly be full of errors they have to work out at launch, so they want us to be the guinea pigs.

I ran the beta version of windows 10 for a week or two. Wasn't a big fan, Microsoft are hiding things like the control panel which I am quite fond of. Lots of large icons that are not needed for desktops though may be handy for my touch laptop. I will upgrade on the assumption that modern programs will be written as native windows 10 programs

Also it is still beta so you shouldn't upgrade now. Looks like it is a free lifetime upgrade from non-enterprise editions of windows 7 and 8.

No not at all. The Bing integration is something you will not be able to escape. The advertsing that is most likely to occur in the new start menu will piss you off. If you need to reinstall the OS after a year after taking their "free upgrade" you will need to buy a new copy of 10. I can't see any benefit. Remember, you get what you pay for. There is a reason it's free

Yeah but not years down the track I wouldn't say, but don't really know. Yeah my god, supposedly the search is locked to bing and locked to the taskbar. That's enough for me not to upgrade alone. All they want is more market share over google/chrome. Not going to happen #firefoxlife
