32 vs 64 bit....

So far I have tried both and had absolutely no probs with 32 bit.
I tried 64 bit and experienced a few "strange" behavioural issues, mostly with some of my apps simply not opening.

I also timed the startup and certain apps on 32 bit and then 64 bit and the results come up trumps with 32 bit over 64!!

Has anyone else tried and compared both?????

You would be better off picking up 4 gig of RAM and W7 64 bit wouldn't you?

You've gotta be prepared for the future.

Yes ram is very cheap at the moment, and install Win 7 64 bit. And if your board supports DDR3 then get DDR3 which is quite decently priced.

Depends on the Platform. Looking at RAM for our I Series at work. $22K for 32Gig....****ing IBM.

I'm more than ready for the future. Currenty have 6 gbs of ram with slots to fit 24gbs in total.

Picked up the retail version of Windows 7 Professional(64 bit) from Uni a couple weeks ago and not one problem.

I believe tonight at midnight, they will release W7 at Harvey Norman.

The smaller IT shops stock the OEM versions at a fair discount to the Harvey Norman price.

From today's Green Guide

W7 Home $139/$149 (32/64)
W7 Pro $189 (both)
W7 Ultimate $259 (both)

Not upgrade, full version. They are supposed to only provide it with a PC purchase.... supposed to *wink* *wink*

Isn't it a bit premature to go x64 for home? Wouldn't many programs not be supported on 64-bit platforms?
I thought they were going to make it so all programs that ran on 32bit systems would run on 64bit systems for windows 7. May be wrong but thats what i thought i heard

Isn't the rule of thumb with MS products to wait at least 6 mnths before the glitches are ironed out or is W.7 past that rule?

Gaso
Wait until one year has past or one month after the first service pack is available - whichever comes first. This is just a basic benchmark though, but based on my experiences, it can save a lot of potential grief.

I haven't found anything that hasn't run on 64, and I've been running W7 64 since the original beta (however long that it).

Usually I would agree with this but not in this case.

7 is totally different to XP and Vista. Works extremely well straight out of the box.
